OK so, here is my "problem"

OK so I loaned one of my siblings my 2ds, a9lh, 10.7, (i was to lazy to update that one atm)
Now here's the problem.
IDK HOW TF SHE DID IT, BUT SHE MANAGED TO UPDATE IT AND COMPLETLEY REMOVED A9LH.

I have the tools to hardmod, along with a backup, so simply put, I'm not asking "how to downgrade such and such", I'm asking how in the hell she managed to do it without the pre-a9lh backup on the SD?
And to my knowledge it has firm protection right?

Maybe you were using an old a9lh version?

Decrypt9 can.
Hourglass restoration always has (keep a9lh) by default but in decrypt9? Nah.
That might've been the "accident"

But the thing is, I never keep backups on my 2ds SD (or any 3ds I own for that matter).
Any backups are literally on my person, on 2 4gb flashdrive I have on my keys

You don't have a gateway do you?
No

Exactly XD.
I'm not mad at all, its not like I can't get it back, but I just simply had to ask
Indeed. That is a very great question.

I'd also like to know how it "theoretically" happened.

I mean, of course, just in case it happens to my system, too.

Lml, it prolly won't, I've never even heard of this ever, it sounds more like a 1 in a trillion type of thing. Plus to be fair, I did keep it on 10.7 cause I was lazy

What CFW do you use

Luma

AFAIK, a System Update without FIRM protection would brick the system, not only uninstall A9LH... I have no clue of how it could have happened...

Mmh... I'd say, SafeA9LHInstaller. It can uninstall pretty easily on O3DS and 2DS.

Only on New 3DS. This is a 2DS.

First versions of Luma didn't have FIRM protection, so if luma was outdated (like, in one of it's first versions) it could override A9LH.
EDIT: Firm protection in v3.5 and protection for recovery mode in 5.5

The only way this is possible is if you were using a version of Luma3DS prior to 5.5 (released May 27) and then they updated via recovery mode.

AuReiNand added firm protection in version 3.6, so all of Luma3DS has FIRM protection built-in.

Are you positive A9LH is gone and it's not a corrupted SD card? (which has been the case for everyone I have helped on here that thought their A9LH was removed) Which version of Luma were you using? Did you copy arm9loaderhax.bin to CTRNAND?

OK so I'm mucking through my SD to try and determine what version I'm on, and I can confirm the arm9.bin is there.

Also managed to try and get as much info as possible as to what she was doing, she swears this is as far as she can remember:

-Starts 3ds
-Everything fine, as normal, starts hyrule warriors legends
-plays for a bit, farming for something to build some kind of badge
-presses home button, closes hrw, opens ssb4
-decides to play pac-man for the hell of it, gets bored after like 5 matches
-wants to play mhgen, switches to it directly in order to avoid the reboot patch
-plays mhgen for a bit, said she was hunting something like a chameleon dragon that poisons and turns invisible
-Hears parents coming, in a panic, shuts down 2ds

It was 4 am at the time, she would've got in trouble if she was caught. I was asleep at the time, and didn't wake up until after they had left. So she turns it back on, noticing the update nag.

-presses yes to update
-parents come back, panic shutdowns again
-turns back on, every thing gone
-musters up enough courage, wakes me up

Her:"Bro, I was playing the 2ds and everything's gone now"
Me: firstly, *proceeds to tell her off for playing at 4am, etc*
Her: OK, lesson learned but the games gare gone
Me: wtf do you mean the games are gone?
Her: I've tried everything, holding L, just letting it go normally
Me: but with the specific hack it has , you don't do anything
Her: but the games are gone
Me: (in disbelief) lemme see it.
Her:hands 2ds*
Me: *same problem*
Me: go get my laptop I'm gonna check the SD
Sees everything in order, and here we are now
She swears she didn't go into recovery or do anything out of the norm, other then panic shutdowns
