I tested CatSFC & CatSFC+ with Jurassic Park and when I go into the buildings (which switches the perspective to a 3D perspective ala Wolfenstein) gives me a black screen, although the BGM still plays but that's as far as it goes.

If may be an issue with CATSFC itself, in which case there might not be much that can be done on the libretro side. Can you test that bit with Snes9x Next or blargSnes?

I'll give it a test once I get out of work.
Will try with both emus you mention and post back the results.

I see 4096 error complaints on the thread...
Teampleb is spinning in his grave again.

Anywho, just wondering if there's been any recent developments on any of the non-arcade based cores. Has focused shifted entirely on DSP and FBA/MAME as of late or does the other console emulators have improvements?

from what i can see, no. though their size increases by a few bytes every release, i have been unable to detect any speed or sound improvements in quicknes and picodrive (on o3ds) and all of the old problems, like not being able to load more than 1 or 2 roms before crashing, pce not working at all (since shortly before 2.5hax was a thing)
i suspect that all relevant attention is on arcade stuff and n3ds i suppose

Last edited by aliaspider,
some games run better on mgba, have no idea why but they do.

Because it is better optimized than gpsp. Gpsp relies on dynarec. If mgba had dynarec support, then it would blow gpsp out of the water. Plus, I'm not counting that mgba is more accurate (even more than VBA-M on pc), so if it wasn't so accurate then it would be even more fast.

BTW, the most accurate SNES emulator on the 3ds is Snes9x Next, that's why it is the slowest, but also why it runs Super Mario RPG faster than CatSFC, since it properly emulates the SA-1 chip.

you can save states in catsfc+ now :P
also sound in regular catsfc is slightly improved.
there also is this to play around with if you want : http://buildbot.libretro.com/.aliaspider/pocketsnes_libretro_fix1.3dsx
it is quite unstable though :D

Looks promising so far. Tested it on an N3DS and am getting on average 10-15 fps more in Star Fox compared to CatSFC Plus. It's still not really playable, but it's noticeably better. Would test more games but most run at 60fps already so Star Fox was an easier one to test for performance increases.

EDIT: It still exhibits the same issue CatSFC has with Super Mario All-Stars + SMW (SMW needs the controllers swapped to get past the intro)

Tested pocketsnes on o3DS 10.3 Ironhax. Getting 40-50 fps on average. Lowest fps occurred in Axelay with 20 fps; I tested it primarily for the heavy Mode 7 usage in the first stage.

edit: actually, it's more like 30-45 fps on average, after a few more tests.

Just tried Yoshi's Island on PocketSnes. Only played the first two levels but it never drops below 59.833fps (i.e. full speed). Great stuff! This is on a New 3DS. Sound issues prevail, but they're not so noticable in Yoshi's Island.

Be aware than PocketSnes is based on a Snes9x build even older than CATSFC, so it will be less accurate (albeit faster).

Tried booting Jurassic Park (U) with the following cores and emus:

1) CatSFC
2) CatSFC+
3) Snes9x Next
4) BlargSNES
5) PocketSNES

Guess what?
The 3D section blackscreens in ALL of them.
Although complete freezes only occurered in blarg and another one, I don't remember which one, but some of them do have sound in that part but with no video output nor any sound of the character moving.

I noticed something though with BlargSNES, I don't know if this might be of importance or not.
Whenever I was in the main exterior parts of the game, it said Hi/Fast ROM, but when I enter any building (3D parts) it says Slow ROM.
Perhaps it might have something to do with it? I don't know.

Just hope that this helps down the road. :)

Screenshots for test with pocketsnes, the frames only suffers decline when there is a 3D model, such as the title screen of Yoshi‘s island.
It's very amazing in general,we don’t even need to use frameskip on n3DS except some 3D SFC game.

I can enter buildings in Jurassic Park (U) without freezing.

Sounds like you have a bad dump. Works fine on all those on my end. Go download the no intro set off archive.org and use those dumps.
