I'm using an o3ds with the firmware of 10.1.0.27U and cannot get the MAME core to function properly. Whenever I try to start it up, I get a glitched screen, and nothing else happens. I read that this core required an .XML file, which I created based on the code given by @Vague Rant. Can anyone assist me with this issue?

It will not run smoothly on an o3ds. But, either launch it with a CIA, or using MH4U/Smash demo as a target.

Since I'm on a firmware above 9.2, I don't think I can really make use of the CIA (if I'm not mistaken, or if the CIA serves another purpose).If possible, how would I set only the smash demo as a target?

@Rj.MoG Are you sure that will work? Launching homebrew under mixed-mode games (Smash Bros., Monster Hunter 4) seems to have issues on original 3DS. Usually nothing will display at all. That's why I chose YouTube as the first target; it's standard 3DS-mode only but should be large enough. New 3DS owners should be fine running under MH4/Smash, but YouTube is probably the best choice for original 3DS. Monster Hunter 3 might be another good option if anybody has that to test, since that's standard 3DS-mode, too.

EDIT: @JustAKirby As discussed above, I'm not sure if launching via Smash Bros. will work on original 3DS, but if you want to try this should do it:
Code:
<targets selectable="true">
	<title mediatype="1">000400000014E500</title>
	<title mediatype="1">000400000014E600</title>
	<title mediatype="1">000400000014C200</title>
	<title mediatype="1">000400000014C300</title>
	<title mediatype="1">00040000000EDF00</title>
	<title mediatype="1">00040000000EE000</title>
	<title mediatype="1">00040000000B8B00</title>
	<title mediatype="2">00040000000EDF00</title>
	<title mediatype="2">00040000000EE000</title>
	<title mediatype="2">00040000000B8B00</title>
</targets>
That XML is the same as the one I suggested previously but with all the YouTube and Monster Hunter entries removed. It will try to launch using the various Smash Bros. demos and full versions.

If you want to be dead certain what you're running under, you could just rig it up so you have to select it manually using the following:
Code:
<targets selectable="true">
</targets>
This will just have you select your target manually.

When I have the bios for gameboy and gameboy color, aren't they supposed to load before loading a game? It's not working for me.

No, Gambatte doesn't support loading either GB bios.

Then how can I get true gameboy color colors? In Kirby's Dreamland 2 for instance, everything is greenish instead of

@Drak0rex That has nothing to do with either Game Boy or Game Boy Color BIOSes. Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a Super Game Boy game, i.e. the SNES peripheral. Gambatte doesn't--and probably never will--support Super Game Boy at all. GameYob is the only Game Boy emulator with (partial) Super Game Boy support on 3DS.

Is there any way to disable the bottom screen text and just display a black screen like on the non-retroarch mGBA? It's very distracting whilst playing.

@swaggon Why would you want to disable the text but keep the screen running? That's just going to sap your battery. You can go into Settings > Logging and turn Logging Verbosity OFF to reduce the amount of text, but I'm not aware of a way (or a reason) to display a blank screen.

I've already disabled the logging but half the screen is still covered in text.

The reasons I want the text gone is because I want the text to be removed by default at launch, I want to see the frame rate on the bottom screen, and also want to be able to exit to the Homebrew Launcher without a breaking it with a black screen. I don't mind the battery being sapped if removing the text is possible.

Only reason I can think of is he might be on 2DS, but even on 2DS RetroArch has code to do exactly what he asks, by touching the top of the touch screen...

@swaggon, are you saying RetroArch isn't turning the screen on when you exit? That's a bug if so. It's supposed to.

I'm on a New 3DS; I want the text to be disabled by default, be able to see the frame rate on the bottom screen, and be able to exit RetroArch without breaking the Homebrew Launcher with a black bottom screen.

I just tried running NFS MW for GBA on GPSP but as soon as I got in race, my system froze. Is there anything I can try to make it run properly?

@daxtsu I'm guessing @swaggon is just not exiting the emulator properly. He's probably using the force quit shortcut from *hax 2.5 instead of "Quit RetroArch".
I've got individual SMDHs launching each ROM so exiting RetroArch in that way is not possible for me.

But anyway, is there a way to remove the text? Stop debating the possible reasons for needing to do so.
