System: New 3ds (regular , newest firmware, EU)

So I am experiencing freezes on my new Sky3ds with: Samsung Memory 32GB Pro MicroSDHC UHS-I Grade 1 Class 10.

For instance, I insert Zelda:A link between worlds with the newest Temples and after a period playing (20min or less) the game suddenly freezes (still hearing music). From what I notice it happens in at random or transition scenes.

So what Can I do about this?
The card I have Says that its a Class 10 card with very high read and write speeds:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Mem...1-5&keywords=Samsung+Pro+microSDHC+32GB+UHS-I

I have both experienced this with New Super Mario Bros 2. And I am sure will happen with any other game I try it with.

Is my SD-card NOT supported? What Card should i get that will work 100% of the time. share your experiences.

Thank You

TC,

Where did you get the card from? If Amazon give them a call and tell them its having read/write issues and that you need another one. The one I have

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-Adapter--SDSDQXN-016G-G46A-Version/dp/B00M55BX3G/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1426088629&sr=8-7&keywords=sandisk micro sd extreme

no issues to report.

I bought it via a swedish site, since I live in Sweden, But its a well known site.

http://www.webhallen.com/se-sv/datorer_och_tillbehor/202218-samsung_pro_microsdhc_32gb_uhs-i

I wonder why it is that it works badly, is there a tool to check if it in fact has those alleged write and read speeds?
Just recently I tried the a Kirby game on 3DS and I played two levels without any hiccups.
Both in Zelda and Mario I froze at an earlier point. Maybe bad roms? Highly unlikely thou.

The one you recommend , is there one with 32GB, equally good? Since I see no need for 64GB.
Did you try Zelda and Mario games on it, without ANY issues at all? NOT ONE?
I also heard that Scandisk are recommended , thou after I got mine samsung.

Could you or anyone test zelda a link between worlds and maybe PM the link for the backup used :)

To test the card use h2testw: http://www.heise.de/download/h2testw.html

It will tell you if the card is fake, as well as the read/write speeds.

When you are looking at the data transfer speeds. You should understand that those are the number the upper limits not the normal operating speeds.

The normal operating speed on the microSDHC is likely slower than what the average speed needed for the game your trying to run.

When you are testing the microSD, you want to look at the average speeds rather than the upper transfer limits.

---

The speeds samsung pro for UHS (Four-bit SD bus mode) is
R: 90 MB/s
W: 80 MB/s

The Sky3DS uses the HC/XC speeds (One-bit SD bus mode), that means you are getting 24 MB/s or 48 MB/s as your upper limits. This means your card is running at the lower upper limits here or lower rather than the UHS speeds (Four-bit SD bus mode).
If your not firmilar with this, you can get firmilar here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Transfer_modes

Next time when you buy a microSD, you should be looking at the class 10 speeds for the HC/XC speeds over the UHS speeds.

Thank You, So from what I gather it might be the Samsung Micro-SD that is at fault here.
I shall then purchase one of those SanDisk MicroSD cards.

Could you tell me which Model to take?

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extre...8629&sr=8-7&keywords=sandisk+micro+sd+extreme

Would you say that that one is the best out there?

Are there any 32 GB variants that you for certain know will preform perfectly , as your does.

There will be no added benefit to buying extreme over ultra.

Thanks, looking good and reasonably priced.
Are you using that Micro-SD card with Sky3ds or Gateway? Whats your experience with it?

So you are saying there will be no real life difference in using either with Sky3ds and that both will work perfectly?

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Memory-Adapter--SDSDQUAN-032G-G4A-Version/dp/B00M55C0NS/
Or
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-Adapter--SDSDQXN-016G-G46A-Version/dp/B00M55BX3G/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1426088629&sr=8-7&keywords=sandisk micro sd extreme

Choices, choices. What is best if price aint the issue (reasonably).

I'm using the 64GB ultra with gateway, it works great.

Gateway, sky, and the 3ds itself all lack the capability to make use of the higher speeds offered by the extreme cards. The only benefit you'll see is that it will be a bit faster to write roms to it from your computer if you're using a usb 3.0 reader.

So you are using the exact Samsung Micro-SD as I am?
And you are using Sky3ds?
Can you tell me what versions of Template and Diskwriter you are using?
Am I doing it all wrong?

I´m using the latest Diskwriter and Template.
Using Sky3DS blue button.
And i use a USB2.0 MicroSD Adapter.
At first time i had problem with my card. Sky3DS doesn´t read the card. Then i used a school rubber in card´s terminals and everything goes ok!

Well I am using:
Latest: Diskwriter & Template
Sky3ds with blue button
I have 3 USB MicroSD adapters, tried with 2.

I have no issue installing the games and running them. However, they freeze!

Do you have experience with any of these games:
Zelda Majoras mask
new Super Mario bros 2
Zelda A link between worlds

All these mentioned games freeze or go black after playing a bit.
maybe you could PM me where you got your backups? :3

I have ordered a sandisk Ultra (10) 32GB MicroSD today. :/ hope it fixes it or ill go bananas.

I know the issue. You can forget about class4 cards. Games that require fast reading speeds (like pokemon) will crash sooner or later. Even SanDisks/Samsung cards can cause such problems.
The only solution is to get another MicroSD card. I would recommend Transcend UHS1 cards. Those aren't faked that much like SanDisks/Samsung.

amd is a bit cheaper though

Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different

    Year not yard lol

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
