Because before this thread was started..

1. i know how easy Gateway is to install-and-use
2. i seen it in action and loved its features
3. i was going to buy a nintendo 3ds this month so i hoped this was false rumour..
and my conclusion is.. using gateway's launcher + install files is safe

Even if it is a true rumour, it's your risk. As it is mine, since I'm almost at the same situation as you are. But I know the risks. and I'm willing to take them. I just don't understand this big drama people are making about this supporters, or non supporters. There's no honour in the scene, there never was, idk why people are so surprised with this, even if it's true. as long as it works on their product, and it's safe, for people who buy it, let them do whatever they want.

Excellent analogy, but I have one caveat. The Gas station owner knows the wrong strings might cause your car to explode, but he literally doesn't understand why and he continues to sell those strings to people. The gas station owner is the cloner, and he is a part of the problem too right?

That is correct. The way I see it its both cloners and GW fault. Its just sad that things like Normatt hack is also unusable. Meaning you cant use hacks that other people have created, even useful not stolen and great hacks.

So, bricking consoles because they can't handle any sort of competition? That's going way too far, and I for one will NEVER purchase a product from the GW asshats who thought this was a good idea; whether this was just targeted at clones or not just not justify bricking a console, not everyone is in an area in which they can get a hold of a legit Gateway.

It seems that using any sort of modified software for the official device could trigger a brick of the console as well, which is them basically saying you are NOT allowed to do what you want with the hardware that you purchased; so, tell me what makes them better than any other company out there trying to lock down their hardware?

People should flat out boycott Gateway products for now on, unless they want to inevitably be screwed and be without a console because someone may do something with their official GW that the GW Team doesn't want being done. Good job at pissing off a lot of people GWNubs.

This guy knows what he's talking about. Boycott GW and buy your games people. Wait, you still want to pirate? But you want to boycott GW, so maybe buy another clone? Wait, the clones copy GW stuff and don't test their shit, and may cause bricking? Then eh....

I think you should just wait til r4i releases their own firmware.
"Good luck with that".

I don't own either of the products, I'm just disgusted at the fact that a bunch of developers would intentionally brick a device just because they don't like competition. There's other ways to combat competition than to screw over people that shelled out a good amount of money for a console that some of them may not even be able to afford to replace.

lol? Who said anything about buying another clone or me wanting to pirate anything? I never once implied that I owed a Gateway or any similar device that allows the booting of 3DS roms on a 3DS console.

No it's not that. Geez. You should probably learn how to read properly and thoroughly.
don't talk like that to people whose first language isn't english, or anyone really ok? don't you have any manners? i hope you are not picking on them because they are 'female'?

You can hardly consider those a fair competition. They just blatantly stole Gatewy's shit.

OK

fed up trying to get technical answers to any questions.

SIMPLE ANSWERS

NO - GATEWAY DO NOT HAVE EVIL CODE IN THEIR FIRMWARE RELEASE

YES - OTHER SHITTY CLONES MEAN THE DEVICE AND MEMORY MANAGEMENT CODE CAN FUBAR YOUR BEAUTIFUL LITTLE 3DS

and, er the region free guy seems to have modified the code in a way that enables region free and also a potentially dead 3ds

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man...

Sorry to use your quote if you're not a pirate, but other pirates out there will stick by the ethics claim against GW and play pirated games 2 min later. Those are the hypocrites I'm mocking.

Lol? Who's code do you think that the "shitty clones" are using? The GW team is at fault, they should have never done anything like this in the first place. Why don't you just make a bunch of posts going "herp de derp capslock is cruise control for KEWLLLLL," it'll be just as relevant to the topic as your previous post was.

Sorry for that. No it's not because they are female. She doesn't seem to understand the problem here even though it's been stated many times. I don't know why but it aggravates me the more I see her (to me) ignorant posts. Sorry, won't do that again.

Personally, I just want to play my Eur copy of ALBW I have. I don't even have a GW yet.

Now I just need to hope that GW releases classic emunand w/ region free soon, and preferably without needing a GW.

3DS scene is making people have paranoid beliefs. people are scared to open they 3DS in case it bricks. people dont know who to trust anymore in the 3DS scene.

While many may disagree with gateways action, they stated earlier on that the clone cards could damage your 3ds. Gateway are the only group out there doing anything for the 3ds (apart from MT-card who still stole some of gateways code) and must have a development team capable of keeping up the work who needs to be paid. I am sure they would have bricked the clones cards if they could but they can't due to the non upgradable FGPA etc. With the clones coming out at cheaper and cheaper prices, they could either call it quits or do something drastic like this...

I would much rather people finally had it drilled into their heads, that they are sabotaging the flash cart scene by buying clones then end up with no updates or having gateway release a new flash cart. I don't see it as much as a loss to gateway, as it is unlikely people would have replaced their clone with a gateway unless gateway found a way to protect their code from the clones. It is unfortunate for people who were not even aware that the gateway existed or used the region free mod but that is the risk you take using any unofficial device.

I am sure Gateway is just about ready to release its new firmware and I can see a bunch of clone users going out to buy a new 3ds/gateway regardless of all the bitching when they see all the new features.

The point is they probably have crucial and precise memory initialisation routines for a multitude of hardware on the 3DS - maybe something the clones have missed - maybe cunningly the Gateway team have kept quiet about something they found that it would be tricky for the cloners to implement properly - hence the warnings issued recently.

I think this scenario is at least 90% whereas the Gateway = evil programmers scenario is less than 10%

Ok, im really unsure of what to do right now. I have had my gateway updated to 2.02b ever since it came out. I never used a different launcher .dat on gateway. I only use the ones that are on the official website. I also never get involved with any patches. I havent fired up my 3ds in a while and im not sure what i should do or if im at risk. Are you guys saying i dont play the gateway card for the time being? In addition, the team said they will release the new firmware in the early days of january instead of newyears day, but it has been 2 weeks and nothing came up. What the hell is going on, this news seems almost unbelievable...

What a pretty scummy thing to do. I can understand using code that would prevent the GW firmware from loading if you're using a clone. I remember the AKAIO team doing something similar in response to cloned Acekards. But putting a freakin' bricking file in your firmware without properly warning users beforehand is just stupid. I'm so glad I never bothered getting a Gateway before this came to light.

You are pulling those %s out of your ass. Most of the people here who have any clue would agree it's the exact opposite.
Also you have yet to explain why it all started so suddenly and why Normmatt's modified Launcher is affected as well.

EDIT: Until further proof is given, I'll believe what those who have code running say.
