You could check the bulbapedia or serebii guides to IVs and EVs, but the short explanation is that IVs are like the DNA of a pokemon, they're set since the egg is given to you and can't be changed.
They vary from 0 to 31, and at level 100 they add that number of points to the stat.
EVs are different in that you can change them either by battling or by Super Training.
Every 4 EVs make up a single point in a given stat, and you can put up to 252 in each stat, for a total of 510, but you can distribute them however you like.

That's basically it, if you want to breed for IVs then it's a bit more complicated, but that's what they mean.

Edit: If someone could help me with instacheck today it would be greatly appreciated, I need to check the IVs of a few boxes of trades and it's hard to communicate in the tiny message ingame.

Hey all!

just dropping my FC down because I'm kind of desperate for zones on the Friend Safari.. Here's to hoping Black-Ice updates the list soonish, so that I can add ALL of the tempers and try to fill this void of friends that I feel within.. -sob-

Edit: Forgot the FC -facepalm-
oh and not sure how it works, but just PM me if you've added me so I can search your FC on Black-Ice's list on the first post..

FC: 3969 - 4318 - 0639

Hey guys,

I am looking to obtain either Yveltal, Zapdos or Moltres in trade.

Offering rare shiny Relicanth that I recently caught.

PM if interested :yaysp:

Is there any chance of gyms popping up in gbatemp? ^_^

I've heard questions of gyms, and Team Flare.
How they'd be regulated, thats a different story and I may need to add a poll to see what would be well received, of course if Gyms are active, the Elite 4 and champion cant participate in the battles to place leaders as they're already higher rank

edited front page a bit, will do more later

I'm looking for stuff to start breeding, but all I have in return is Jolly Charmander with an assortment of 4 IVs.
(They're Jolly because they're for using as Megazard X).
But I was thinking since they're just for passing down IVs the nature wouldn't matter.

Yo people, I have 3 options with adding safari types to the list:

1. Colour the Temp name the colour of the safari type (so: Black-Ice because i'm fire type)
2. Re-order the list into sections for each type.
EG:
Fire
----- ---
----- ---
Water
----- ---

3. Add a box next to all of our names saying the type: Black-Ice: 1289-8295-3309 [Fire]

which is best?

I already posted it, but it would be nice if I could be added to the list.

My safari type is psychic with Munna, Sigilyph and Gothirita.

I think the first option will cause some confusion because of the similar colors between different types.. So I'd say the best options are either the second or the third.. The second one will give you, Black-Ice (which I already added on my DS btw -wink wink-), a little bit more work and trouble... So if you want to save yourself some time, I'd say go for the third option, which you can also make is bold or underlined to make the Type more noticeable/visible..

Hm... I don't know about those, what about safaris with dual-type pokemon? Where would they go? It would be more work, but it would be better to just list what pokemon the person has, would it not?

And yes, I know the game just says a single type, but why limit a list that is for our convinence like that? Just saying Black-Ice : Fire means that he has 3 of the 59 fire types in the game. A bit vague.
