Is this applying a look-up table to the colour values ('Curves' in PhotoShop, vs. Fizeau's 'Levels'), or is it doing local contrast enhancement that would let details show in both dark and light areas, like this:?

(advantage: each part of the image looks more or less like it would to your eye after pupil dilation/contraction; disadvantage: halo artifacts around strong contrast edges - e.g. sky is bright next to dark cliff but gets unrealistically darker next to bright clouds - if you look at a large area)

See again you are beside the point: what people (including me) are criticising (with reason, so it is not blanket "hate") are the actions, not the person per se. When actions become a pattern, and said person is associated with this pattern, people call out the person. It's up to the person to break this association with the pattern they created.

no, it is not. This kind of processing is called HDRI, and to be done properly, it requires content awareness (either of person doing the processing, or by some algorithm (usually ML/AI infused) to be able to mask-edit only part of the picture. Classic example include: underexposing the sky (like in your photo), overexposing a subject backlit on a sunny day. Curves or LUTs (basically a table converting source colours to output colour) isn't enough since it is not global to the picture.

edit: actually, might be wrong about is possible here: @Souldbminer are you working on RGB values or CIELAB/HSL colour spaces when under/over exposing?

So this app does what? Over saturates colors? Kind of hard to hdr tonemap when there's no source hdr metadata.
