Nintendo Switch firmware 20.2.0 released

A new Nintendo Switch firmware is available. So far seems no new keys are generated, and FW 20.0.0 Keys decompress the 20.2.0 firmware; sigpatches will need an update, SYS-Patch should work fine. So far the only app affected is NXThemeInstaller which needs new patches. Bootlogos nor PNGShot are affected.

Ver. 20.2.0 (Released July 14, 2025)

  • Fixed an issue where Parental Control settings were not transferred from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 in certain circumstances during a system transfer.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

NS1 is on its way out (hopefully not soon as publishers release real physical games for it so that's cool).
I feel like it's going to be alive for at least 3-5 years due to indie physicals; it'd make no sense to release 500MB games that can run on Switch 1 & 2 on a $16 64GB Switch 2 exclusive cart.

No wonder so many kids are dying of Switch 2 overdose.

Didn't buy Switch 2, going to stay at 20.1.1 for a while.

Man, I should just stop hoping they'll ever introduce themes and besides, NS1 is on its way out (hopefully not soon as publishers release real physical games for it so that's cool).
The 3DS only got themes 3 and a half years into it's lifespan, and is the only one of Nintendo's consoles that actually had themes (even if a lot of them were only for promoting games) and every other Nintendo console (if you don't count S1 & 2's light and dark modes) didn't even come with themes with the closest being folder icons on the Wii U changing the color of the background when you were in one and nowhere else.

This even extends to the other big two, where Microsoft made every Xbox 360 dashboard UI worse than the last every time they updated it but there were a bevy of (Basic) themes for it, only to go to a bunch of samey built-in themes with an option to set your background for the Xbox One and Sony allowing a lot of varried themes for the PS3, PSP and Vita to having a boring menu on the PS4 with a lot of dynamic themes to band-aid fix it, to doing away with themes entirely on the PS5.

Even the Steam Deck doesn't let you theme the "Gaming Mode" (Big Picture Mode under a different name) without third party tools to let you do so, being yet another example of people doing something that GabeN just couldn't get off his ass to do. and the Desktop Mode is KDE Plasma so it doesn't even count.

All this to say is that if you're hopping for official theme support from any of the big 3 and Valve, you're just asking to be hooked up to a large supply of copium.

One of my friends asks if the update breaks Atmosphere or not... I have no need for piracy (piracy stinks) so this update doesn't bother me.
