It's a literal maid going around killing people.

I think people make a distinction because assisted suicide includes/requires informed consent while euthanasia is any instance where you Ole Yeller someone for (purportedly) medical reasons, regardless of their wishes.

exactly. And while some people were criticising Quebec's law about widening the range of patient who could receive MAiD, there is still a very strict list of criteria to meet in order to receive it. Diabetes can cause suffering, it is uncurrable, but you can live with it. You have to change your lifestyle, you have to take your meds, but you can still live with it. Some diseases like Alzheimer and Parkinson (which were included in Quebec's law) are very degenerative and most of the time, you will no longer be able to live with it.

BTW, maybe a mod would like to create a separate thread for this conversation?

In Spain a similar set of laws was tried to pass but, they where so wide, you could ask for Euthanasia even for a non clinical depression or even get older!... some factions of socialism, do copy laws without reading them nor understand them.

Well, Canadian's law was actually based (mostly copied) on Quebec's law (before the recent update). Now, we will see how well this goes. For the "pre-consent", when you sign up the papers, you (the patient) have to set some criteria of degeneration you don't want to reach (not recognising your family, leaving your house and getting lost (silver alert), not being able to take care of yourself (taking your bath, cooking) , etc) and name a trusted person who can take the MAiD decision for you.

At that moment, the same MAiD approach will be made, follow through with two different doctors, etc..
