As the update title says, I’ve eliminated extremely rare crash (bye bye black and gold :( ) and restored the original Green and Gold color palette of window 5 so you can play the game with all the original palette colors except the default.

I’m not even going to lie to myself this time, I’ll for sure tweak this again because a.) I noticed a minor text issue and 2.) I’d really like to tweak the palette a bit and make ALL the palettes (except perhaps 8 🤢🤮) solid window colors that don’t have ugly artifacts when upscaled.IMG_8366.jpegIMG_8367.pngIMG_8368.png
I’ve discovered a SINGLE instance of the game crashing because of the color palette changes. It happens on the top of the Mountain of Woe as soon as you start to fight an isolated Rubble. I only noticed it when doing the Dimensional Vortex but it’s entirely possible that this enemy will cause the same issue in the main story too if it’s in the same spot. No other Rubble (or any other enemy) has crashed the game.

If you’re worried, switch to a different window color EXCEPT 5 ( I like #3) before entering the Dimensional Vortex and the issue will go away. Or simply avoid that single enemy in the top right corner of the map.

Perhaps I’ll release a clean version of the mod with only the text adjusted but also, maybe not.

If someone wiser than I can figure out exactly what can be changed to avoid the crash, go for it. I’ve tried everything including changing ONLY a SINGLE color of the default palette on a clean rom and this spot crashes no matter what

Updated with TWO new fonts. The first one replaces the two pixel wide font used for dialog to much cleaner single pixel wide lines. the 2nd font is for certain menu items where the text was cut off. this is just a taller font based on the original but it makes it easier to read than than the original. Mostly used in item descriptions but I'll maybe adjust some of the other items if it becomes clear that they need it.

Heres what it actually looks like full screen on a New 3DSXL. 3rd photo shows the new alt font characters and the 4th shows them in game on the same screen.

I’m be making FAR fewer updates now that I’ve beaten the game but ai will MAYBE alter some of the widow sizes in the extras menu and adjust the size of the cursor.

Fixed potential issue with text by making all instances of the name "Crono" in the script locked. This means even if you WANTED to ignore my advice to not change the default names, you now can't. At least with this one. If I find evidence that all character names have the same strange behavior, I'll update again and lock all the names so they don't wrap around lines when given the chance.

Found some minor typing errors in dialog and fixed them.

Finally, got smacked with a realization and fixed the strange psychedelic graphics glitch in the main menu.


With the MAIN goal of this hack achieved, I accidently figured out how to fix some of the other minor things like menu text cutting off. So MUCH MUCH MUCH LATER in the future, I'm going to take that on.
