Windows XP does not like exotic Hardware

Today in my Tech missadvantures, i will write about the TowerPC that i found on the loft of my House.

At first the PC would not show a Picture on the Monitor and would beep all the time. My Stepfather then looked at the PC and was making diagnostics. He plugged various things in and out and tryed to find the issue. Later on, it would be able to boot into Windows (up to the Desktop of Windows XP). The Problem was that the Graphicscard was faulty (and also missing a chip), so that it would need luck to output Video signals or not. My Stepfather got the graphicscard out of the PC and it was a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 460 with 64MB Video Ram(from Medion. MEDION!) I then orderd a compatible Graphicscard (a Geforce 4 MX 420, from MSI) from Amazon and my Stepfather builded it in (after a long time). After my Stepfather was done with building the Graphicscard into the PC, it was my Turn. It had Windows XP on (and many MP3s, a few games, a Pokémon rom with cheats on a old version of VBA, a HTML snapshot of a YouTube Video from 2010, old Firefox 2x and sadly no interesting Browsing history from my brother). I decided to install a "clean" (from a not so clean Windows XP ISO from the internet) Windows XP on the Mashine (which was a big misstake). After the installation it would not progressing any further. I tryed it multiple times. I then tryed the option "Disable reboot on system error", which showed a bluescreen with a stop code, that would indicate that XP needs additional Drivers for the Harddisk (which is a SCSI Disk). I then procedded to install Linux on the thing (Windows 7 would also not recognise the Harddrive, despite the fact that my Windows 7 DVD was legit this time). I tryed various *buntu and Linux mint versions, which did not worked or had graphics or font issues. I then tried Debian 9, which had graphics issues on GNOME, so that i needed to uninstall it and used X instead. On the X Desktop, it did not had any issues with the graphics. Later on i decided to install the Xfce4 Desktop enviroment, to replace the basic Window Maker enviroment with something more "professional".

Now that i have a more "professional" looking Desktop enviroment, i need to look how i could get internet on the thing (without using USB tethering and my D-Link DWA140/ST Rev D1 didin't worked also <it said that the firmware was not loaded and modprobe didin't worked ether).

The System has a AMD Athlon XP 1500+ Processor clocked at 1,3GHZ (unicore), 512MB of RAM, a 120GB IBM Deskstar SCSI Harddisk on IDE and two optical Drives (one CD <which needs a "kick start" to open the try> and one DVD). On Linux it saids that the Harddrive has 2 faulty sectors (and shows on bootup some cryptic Errors about the Harddrive), but it still works. Sadly, emulators are not working, because i could not find/install the drivers for the Graphicscard.

The System also has two USB 1.1 Ports, four USB 2.0 Ports, a Serial Port, a Parallel Port (Printer Port) and a PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse Port, so that the old Keyboards and Mices that i found are useful for something.

Overall it is a good system that can also be used for Programming (which is also the PC, where pkgmgr, my console interface for apt-get was made).

Exotic Hardware lol

Intel Celeron 997MHz and 256MB SDRAM with OnBoard Graphics and 20GB IDE Hard Disk

Windows XP SP3 Professional

Now that is Exotic I could do you even better though which has 64MB SDRAM and 8GB HDD IDE

In all seriousness I tryed to build a dream XP Machine.

ASROCK AM2+ VSTA

AMD Phenom II X4 highest compatable with Board cant remember exact Model Number
4GB DDR II RAM 3GB Usable
X2 160GB HDDs RAID IDE
80GB HDD IDE
AMD Radeon HD 4670 AGP 1GB DDR 3
Windows XP SP3 Professional 32 Bit

NForce2 Drivers are an Abomination.

Ok. I never heard about a 8/18GB Harddrive before (i did only knew about 20GB+ Harddrives, like on my old Sony Vaio PCG-FX405 (from 2001) with a 40GB harddrive) but never heard about a 8/18GB Harddrive. I own a Laptop that has a 64bit Processor, but only 1GB of RAM with Windows 7 64bit installed (there was back then Windows 7 32bit installed, because i didin't knew back then that the thing was 64bit, because i thought back then that 64bit laptops always had 2GB+ of RAM).

The Celeron eMachine I found in a skip it was the machine that got me really into PCs because of the RAM Limitation I could not upgrade past 256MB that was the max limit.
So I started to learn what does what and what you dont need Running Services and Startup Apps etc.

Aswell as Malware , Spyware and other Malicious Viruses the Machine had caught online in my misadventures and here we are I know quite a bit about managing , wait wtf am I going on about too much Glucose in my Energy Drink:D

Wow. You experimented with an old Mashine, that could not have more then 256MB of RAM? My first Laptop where i got into PCs (the really very first one that i used at the Age of 7, was an old Tower PC, where my Father showed me how to use Ccleaner on XP back then) was an Acer Aspire 5630 (i still have it, but back then i didin't cared for the Battery (as Kid) so that the Battery is pretty much useless now and i don't have the Charger anymore). It had a Intel Core 2 Duo (64bit) clocked at 1,63GHZ with only 1GB of RAM(which was the reasson, why it had 32bit Windows 7 installed, instead of 64bit). It also had a Nvidia GPU with 128MB of VRAM. On that PC i made my first steps in VBS, Batch scripting and HTML (but no one wants to see what i made in HTML, because i was really bad in HTML back then). I noticed later on that it was 64bit, despite the fact that it had only 1GB of RAM. This was also one of my first (and last) PC where i installed Windows 10 (when it was all new in 2015), but it ran like crap and i installed Windows 7 again.

Yeah way back 2003 I did have PCs 99/00s but knew nothing then I had a Pentium 150Mhz and 32MB SDRAM later upped to 64MB.

2003 was when I started I was doing Web Design and Multimedia along with System Support and Networking and yeah Windows 10 is crap because of the Bloatware and Spyware if it did not have that crap it would be alright.

Now I Hope to do Coding and write Programs I would love to do stuff for Dreamcast and Wii U and PC in general make games etc and a Proper Atari Jaguar Emulator with CD Support.

I like Linux would be great to use Ubuntu or Fedora but as usual in my case Hardware has always been the problem especially at the moment I would prefer to run Linux and Windows in VMs through QEMU or similar but need to specialize my Hardware for Linux.

Again my Coding and Programming Languages need to be built upon with Knowledge I cant even remember most of the Simple HTML or XML stuff I used to do and with the XML I wrote a lot of custom stuff for my XBOX and other Customers or peeps Custom Menu's etc for Unleash X and light python scripts for XBMC.

I am into everything but dont use it you loose it back then Macromedia Studio was not owned by Adobe yet lol.
