Sick, and work is being silly.

WARNING!!!
This entry is in NO way important enough to be compared to the life and / or death of another human being, and does not deal with what some would like to call "Serious life issues." I am not homeless or poor, and I am not starving or disease-ridden, I'm just having a streak of bad days (almost going on a full week here,) and I like to post about it here since it's the "Blog" section.

Just clearing that up for those of you who may of been mistaken in the past or anything.

Thank you.

So they knew I was sick. On Thursday and Friday, they made me stay until 4 on thursday instead of 2, and on Friday I was scheduled 'till 3 and I worked 'till 4. I told them how i felt and everything, and that's why I didn't attend the Christmas Party Saturday night, and they knew I was sick all weekend.

Now, my cell phone bill is pretty high, so I can't make out-going calls, but I can receive. So, I texted a girl from work and told them to let someone know I wouldn't be in. She ended up finding the store manager, to which he replied "tell him to find a phone and call me." So of course, not only did it make me look bad, but I was pissed because I actually had to find a phone.

So, I went to my neighbors house, and bothered her in the morning, to which she let me use her phone but was clearly distraught over it, 'cause it was 7:30am. Right when I was about to call them, the fuckin' manager CALLS MY CELL. So I answer, and say firmly "Hey, I was JUST calling you on my neighbors phone because I can't use my cell." the manager says "hi. What's going on." I said "I wont be coming in today, because i'm sick." he goes "oh really."

So I risked losing my job.

I said "Well yeah, I mean, you knew I was sick last week and even then I stayed 3 hours over my scheduled amount, and you knew I was sick all weekend because I called and said I wasn't attending the Christmas party. It shouldn't be much of a surprise that I'm sick today."

He said "well okay. Thanks.", and I said "See you tomorrow." and he hung up.

Not exactly sure what happened there, but one thing's for sure, they can't fire me unless they give me 3 warnings, and I've gotten none yet. so if I get a warning about missing work, I'll just tell them that I was sick and they very well knew it, but whatever, I'll accept the warning.

ON THE OTHER HAND, I've already started job hunting because I need a second job anyway, maybe to work weekends or something. I work Mon to Fri with this job, so working Sat-Sun is available if I could just find the right job.

Anyways, there's my entry. Hopefully I'll feel better soon.

I feel for you.... as I've had similar experience recently

I VERY RARELY go off sick - in fact I think I've only had perhaps a total of 21 days 'sick leave' in 26 years working
- yet earlier this year I had ONE DAY off with a bad case of diarrhoea/wind/upset stomach (so bad I was on/off the toilet nearly all day).

Since I do shift work & was on Earlies that week I would've started @ ~ 6:00am, but 'cos of the 'problem' I texted (while on the loo BTW) not only my supervisor, but the Foreman & 2 Workmates just to be sure that some1 knew the situation
Within a couple of hours I get a phone call on the Mobile from Supervisor (I was back on the Loo at the time) - asking how I was, told him the situation (even though I mentioned it in the text)

He said 'Well can't you come in anyway - we're short of labour', to which I said
'Are you taking the P***, I can't even get back to bed before I feel like I need the loo again - so how do you expect me to travel into work (it take 20-30 minutes traveling) - I'll be c**pping my pants by then'

He's reply was.... 'Bring clean underwear'

Naturally I was annoyed, but just at that moment my stomach was giving a familiar rumbling, so I just said 'Hang on...... gotta go' just as I let one rip, then hung up on him - Never got another call from him !!!!

BTW He WAS a right a***hole of a supervisor anyway - a real stickler for the rules & regulations etc & no-one who ever worked with him actually liked him.
Since then he has (been) 'transferred' to another department (thanks God for small mercys)

Wow, one hell of a story, haha. Yeah, that's it, I hate when people act like that. But whatever, I don't think I'm gonna' lose my job over it, I didn't even get a warning yet, and i've missed days before (I've never missed a day without a good reason, though. School registration, one time my mom landed in the hospital all of a sudden, and I went to work one day but got sent home 'cause I was vomitting.)

Aye :(

Luckily, that's one thing that is good about my job. Unless it is a dire emergency on his end, my manager will let me off if I have an emergency (not if I have a cold or something, of course), like when I had my kidney stones and went to the doctor (without health insurance >_<). Got the day off to go to the doctor and get some pain meds. Then came back the next day xD!

But I hear you when it comes to overscheduling - I'm supposed to be given a day off each week, as it is scheduled on his schedule, but very rarely does it work out that way. I don't think I've had a day off since mid-October, but whatcha gonna do? School + work = not too much free time.

Bonne chance with the job hunt, mate. Most places will only hire you if you have 24/7 free, though. And years of experience. And low standards. And 5 professional references. And that's for minimum wage retail.

...Job hunting sucks.

@monkat:

haha, thanks for wishing me luck. And to be honest, this job I'm at now is cutting my hours so I'll probably have a lot of time. : /
