I wanted to participate but I was busy.
So @Creatable released a bricker disguised as something else just to fuck with people. This is bad.
People got pissed, threatening the guy and doxxing him. This is worse.
Some people went on to victim blame people, saying that's their fault for trusting the code. This is bad.
EA. This is bad. Like this post.
Some people have suggested contacting Nintendo to fix the issue claiming the problem to be something else. This is bad.
My two cents about the situation are the following:
- @Creatable is a moron and deserves all the hate. No questions asked.
- He is also a moron for thinking that a community that strives on stealing copyrighted material wouldn't have awful people threatening him (this is the same logic he followed for the whole "it's their fault for not doing a backup").
- Whoever threatens someone's life or doxxes someone over this is worse than him.
- @Creatable is only sorry about this because he got doxxed. No reason to forgive him.
- Again, doxxing or threatening his life with this shit is unacceptable.
- People victim blaming users who trusted a file from a non-anonymous member of the community are grade A morons.
- People feeling entitled of compensation after what happened are grade A+ morons.
- EA is a terrible company. Give me likes.
- Overall, I'd say this was entertaining af to watch, but I honestly fear for @Creatable's life as someone could just swat him at any minute now, just because he broke your toy.
The moral of the story is that you shouldn't take things too personal, make a backup of your stuff, don't feel entitled on things you weren't supposed to get in the first place, EA is bad give me likes, and maybe wait a couple of hours before adventuring into the wild like this, if you aren't prepared.
