DS Lite - Almost R.I.P.

I think that my DS is nearing the end of its life span. Right ow, it opens, but the hinge is broken so it can't stay in one position anymore. The top screen is horribly destroyed, it fuzzes out completely and I have to adjust and put it back and forth for it to show the correct picture. Also, it constantly hangs and freezes randomly EVERYWHERE. It does that even on the menu screen of my Acekard.

Almost.

ON OTHER NEWS: On a completely unrelated topic, I just made a new blog (sort of a movie blog) and it's looking good.

Order a replacement screen + new case from DX. Will cost you around 25 bucks and it's fixed as new.

Yes, your DS hangs, because your top screen is broken. A DS of which the top screen has been disconnected won't boot for instance.

In addition to the above, a tri-wing screw driver if you don't own one already.

What is DX? DealExtreme?
my DSiXL has black spots on the top screen cuz I sat on it by accident

Yes, DealExtreme. :)

Yeah, I'm using a spare DSlite right now, the contact pads under the buttons are shot on my primary unit. It still works perfect other than the pads needing changed, they just wore out. I bought it new within a week of black DSlites being available in the USA, so it lasted what, 3 or 4 years before the pads wore out? Problem is, since we moved, we can't find the tri-wing screwdrivers....we have two of them around here somewhere, but we still have lots of boxes that need to be gone through since moving. I have the new contact pads (I actually have 3 sets), but until we find those screwdrivers, I'm forced to use the spare DSlite.

The spare one is a little annoying because it is a Gamestop refurbished black DSlite and the top screen is a little darker and bluish tinged compared to the bottom screen. Otherwise though, it works great. To be honest, I only notice the issue when both screens are showing basically the same thing, so it's not too bad. Still, I want MY DSite back. I just hope the relatively simple process of changing the pads doesn't cause something else to break......the older the DS, the more likely the chance of that happening. That can be a pain when it happens.

My nephew had us fix his DSlite.....what a nightmare it turned out to be. He needed a new case (cracked hinge) and a new top screen (cracked, got sat on) and new button contact pads (his were worn completely through). The replacement case didn't fit together correctly and the shoulder buttons didn't feel right. The top screen failed after about 2 months and there was a buzzing noise in his speakers. My bro tried to adjust it, but it appeared to need another top screen and apparently some ribbon cable in the unit got brittle and cracked, so more stuff to buy to fix it.....he just ended up shelving the unit instead of waiting on DX and bought a used one from Gamestop that works fine.

I worry that taking mine apart to change the pads will make something else break just because of its age. I hope not.
