so i'm getting the first edition bundle, uncharted, a 32GB card, and screen protectors in about 8 days.
needless to say. i am excite.
i don't have friends in real life, aside from my girlfriend and ex girlfriend. the latter of which i'm living with. so i have no one to talk to about how awesome this is going to be. (aside from my girlfriend, who actually paid $315 of the $503 total. she's excite as well.)
in january i went to an ign prime party in san francisco with my girlfriend. there was pizza, beer, tea, greg miller and other ign cast, and about 30 other people.
they gave us vitas on silver platters. they gave you a menu and you pick which game you want, and they'd bring out a vita and chain it to your table, and you just have it to play with it for however long you want.
there was littlebigplanet, uncharted, modnation racers, little deviants, reality fighters, wipeout 2048, among others.
modnation racers was surprisingly bad, little deviants was surprisingly good.
the party started at 7pm and lasted until 10pm, but because of my girlfriend's strict indian family, we had to leave around 9.
at the party there was also 3D PS3 TVs. a few, in the back. it was actually pretty impressive. i played motorstorm with my girlfriend with the new split screen thing where each player looks at the tv and sees a completely different screen (with 3D glasses), and it doesn't cut the screen in half.
i thought that was amazing, and it's perfect for playing split screen shooters.
but i digress. modnation racers was as crappy as the PSP version was, and honestly the graphics looked the same. it just doesn't play well, especially after playing a real racing game like wipeout.
little deviants, my girlfriend picked up first and she thought it was ok, but found littlebigplanet way more fun. i picked up little deviants thinking "well, it's sitting here, i might as well try it," and tried the game with the back touch pad, and you roll your finger over the back and cause a hill to move shit. it was ok, and i can actually see them doing some cool things with the rear touch pad, if you get used to it, it's just like having more (usually optional) buttons on your device, it makes it more fun and involving. but after that i tried the AR one, where little deviants fly around and you shoot stuff. to my surprise, the vita's camera is pretty damn good. it was like watching a video camera screen, and the little deviants were flying around.
i remember checking out the 3DS camera. and no thank you.
one of my only disappointments was that the analog sticks didn't click for L3/R3. but i guess that is in a way, nullified by the back touch pad.
anyway, by the time we left, i decided i wanted my vita a week early. and that having little deviants wouldn't be as bad as i originally thought.
so i told my girlfriend "i'm not getting the wifi one, i'm gonna get the extra money and get the first edition."
so since the day of the party, we have saved up. well she has. i'm unemployed and don't get money. i put in $46, i believe. my mom bought me the 32GB card as my birthday present (i turned 20 december 15th), uncharted i bought with money my mom gave me for food, same with the screen protectors, and $315 towards the vita came from bhavna's (my girlfriend's) wallet. not proud, but very very excited and lucky-feeling.
SO. i have no one to talk to about all this. my mom's beginning to worry about my suicidal tendencies. because i'm being kicked out of the house i live in and have to move back to the town she lives in (six hours away - six hours from my girlfriend of four years) but i don't know how to tell her - i'm simply way too excited for the vita to kill myself. EIGHT MORE DAYS.
i'm not a sony fanboy. i would have been this excited for the 3DS if it had wowed me but it simply didn't. it's a piece of shit system with a few ok games. the vita isn't perfect either. but fuck man, it's a vita.
oh and here's us playing:
edit;
i forgot to add that littlebigplanet froze constantly on two different vitas. but i'm sure it's because it was some sort of beta demo considering when the game's being released. we would have to restart the game because it would freeze, but it wouldn't freeze the vita's OS so we were able to reload it pretty quickly.
and that the vita is pretty good at multitasking. really good.
also, the vita's OS is touch-only, i believe. and all the games' menus were too. i didn't like that. i'd like to be able to use the d-pad and face buttons to go through menus.
needless to say. i am excite.
