My School Sucks

Well, this make's my next year in school suck even more, as I just got the newspaper, and they are going to cut out all of these classes if the levy fails:

Foreign Language
Advance Placement
Honors
Wood
Family and Consumer Science
Art
Music
And Physical Education.

EDIT:I forgot one part. I still have to change my high school subject, but only wood. Art, Music, and PE are getting cut out for lower grades. Still sucks though, the others are still being cut out...

Wait...they're cutting Honors, AP, and Foreign Language? I mean, all of those are pretty harsh to get rid of, but 2 years of Foreign Language are required to graduate, aren't they (Maybe that's just private schools or just my school)? Also, how can they cut Art and Music? And Phys Ed too?

Sorry for the spaz, but I just find that terribly shocking.

Sadly, since I don't go to a public school I don't have the choice for woodshop.

Wow. That's... not possible, is it?

You HAVE to have 2 years of foreign language to graduate; And what about PE?! :O

WTH? How do you cut PE classes down...All you need is someone to tell kids to run laps around the school or a basketball to play with. Anything can be physical education but really you cut down on it? And then they are going to cut AP? Wow i feel sorry for you.

I could see wood shop being removed, and maybe certain art and music classes, but completely removing ALL of those sections leaves me completely baffled.

IIRC, 2 years. Hence why I'm not taking it next year (I'm taking Robotics in place of it)

Here's a quote from the article:

"Hang Said that Levy failure would lead too the elimination of Foreign Language, Advance Placement, Honors, Wood, Family and Consumer Science. And Art, Music and PE would be cut out as well for lower grade levels.

I'M getting the latter 3, but lower will not. I will not get the others though...

It varies from state to state and they change it frequently. For my graduating class, the Michigan curriculum doesn't require two years of a foreign language (though I'm on my third now anyway), but the class of 2015 WILL have that requirement.

I know quite a few AP classes, as well as Spanish and French IV and a bunch of art classes, are getting cut next year. I'm sure a lot of elective courses will be gone if the school funding gets cut as much as the governor proposes. IIRC he wants to lower school funding from $90 million down to below $20 million, but I could have those numbers completely wrong, I can't be bothered to look it up now.

Yup, a similar thing was going to happen in my school district next year, but gratefully, the residents in my city passed a parcel tax that will provide enough money to support our schools.

And I find it a bit weird that they would cut foreign language, honors, and AP classes but keep art, music, and PE for the higher levels? Messed up.

My school values sports and other things more than they do education. Like when the buses for high school got cut off, we suggested to cut sports. Kids need education....

My mother thought that half of the parents there where going to kill her for saying that.

They even said that buses are the last thing on there minds. Sports comes first....

"Fuck getting kids to school, we just need them to be able to play FOOTBALL"

That's pretty much it in a nut shell. :P

Well, we have those classes only in lower grades. Woodwork, metalwork, etc is classified under one subject, and you only have to take this class for 2 years, no more.

I know a lot of people who would pay to teach art. Literally, because our art club sponsor does after art was cut. Really sucks that you're losing shop, though. Shop is an awesome class, and every shop teacher our school's had has been awesome.
