Asian parents

Fuck. A few days ago, I was supposed to get my report card. Yet, I've never actually got my report card, because my family and I were away on that exact day. Afterwards, there were a bunch of "ugly" events that happened.

Now, since I didn't pick it up on the specific date, I'm going to have to pick it up within a few weeks. Just today, my parents questioned me about my report card, and I had to tell them about few of the marks that I have gotten. I told them I had a few As, and Bs. To tell you the truth, I did have some Cs, and some other marks that really slap the asian stereotype. Obviously, I didn't tell them, because they would actually do everything, the traditional Korean way. Giving punishments.

When I had mentioned that my estimate of my total average in English was an 80. My mom, all of a sudden, freaked out and bitches to me about why I can't get over 90. She questioned me about the 100% on an assignment I've completed before. One single tiny fucking work that I got back in January. She won't stop talk about it, and continues to yell at me. They even expected me to get an average over 90. Fuck, even my nerd friend couldn't get over 90 average from my teacher. (More info about her explained at the bottom.) Then, they compare me with my other friends, who got 90 from THEIR teachers. Honestly, their teachers weren't doing anything. I've seen so many countless mistakes (I'm an English perfectionist.) on my friend's paper that he was going to hand in, it shouldn't have even been something called work. It should been called a worthless piece of paper with ink all over it. There was a sentence that went like this. "She was like a superstar. There was a big huge wall of men around her." (No dramatization. Real stuff. I even have the sheet in my hands at the moment, because he wanted me to edit it. I had the rough copy, and told him all the things he needed to correct.) And that wasn't even the worst sentence in the paragraph. There were more sentences in the paragraphs with far more errors, and the grammar was so pathetic, it just forced me to laugh out loud. Yet, he still managed to get a 90% with that piece of shit. He lived in Canada longer than I have, and gets better marks than me in everything. He indeed is a good student, and has a decent knowledge, but English is something I'm actually better than him at. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the teacher didn't even looked at his sheets.

Back onto the real subject, I explained to them that my teacher isn't the easiest marker and is in fact, a harsh one. Yet they don't listen to anything I say, or anything coming out of my mouth.

Here's a bit more info about my teacher.
My teacher was a tough marker. She's not a bad teacher, but she's prefers everything to be done in her own format. It's certainly not a bad thing if you get used to her ways of instructing, because she's actually an entertaining teacher with good advices good advices. However, as I've said before, she's a very touch marker, and probably one of the hardest marker in the school. However, before she gives any work to anybody, she clearly state what she looks for in a good piece of work.

Again, back onto the real topic at hand, my parents make an excuse with the 100% one, and asks "I want answers why you didn't try hard enough". Well, I FUCKING DID. I worked my ass off, got a few compliments from one of the toughest teachers around, and even managed get a higher mark than the most majority of the class. Even so this is the compliment I got? Bull fucking shit.

I honestly don't get it. They never seen how my teacher marks, and they just complain, complain, and complain. They have set up an impossibly high expectation, and expects me to fulfill it. They're not understanding my current situation, and they just think they're righ. They refuse to listen to my reasons, and that just pisses me off. Due to the fact that I got a few Cs on my last report card, I lost my computer, my ds, and everything that has to do with electronics. I got a terrible laptop now, instead of a good computer, and so on.

I even got a higher mark than my brother, back when he was at my age. (We had the same teacher, and he said he never gotten anything over an 80 from the teacher before)

I don't even know how they're gonna react when they see my 1 F, and my other C- or F. (2 As, 2 Bs, 2 C+s, 1 absolute F, and 1 F or possibly a C-) If they think a C+ is one of the worst thing next to a F, how am I gonna get out of it?

I just don't care anymore. I've lost all hope. I'll still try to achieve my goals, but I just won't listen to them anymore.

Aw shit.
I just remembered I'm still waiting for my report card.
And I have a high 60 in Geography.
Fuck. FUCK.

I hate how they act like everything is always important. Their arrogance blinds them, and in turn, harms the mentality of their own children. [/maturity] IT'S A FUCKING CREDIT I'LL NEVER USE IN MY FUTURE SO WHAT DOES IT MATTER HOW WELL I DID ON IT IF I PASSED?!?!

Shit. I have a 70-something in English.
I did well in Theology and Math though...

I crunched the numbers.
I'm on honor roll for the year of 2007-2008.

What Korean parents need to understand is that after high school, everything is marked by a curve. No matter how shitty you do, as long as you do better than everyone else in your class, you're okay. Why else would they give you the median/mode on your report card?

lol, dream above will never be a reality.

A bit of advice for avoiding the shit that Korean parents give:
Deny, deny, deny. If they ever try to pin anything on you, pin it on someone dead, the other parent (if only one is talking to you), or a sibling who's successful.

I do this, and I do pin it on my teachers, and etc. I compare myself to the other Koreans who've done worse than I have. (There was one this year. She's a good friend of mine. She's going to summer school right now to finish everything) Yet, they say this "This isn't about anyone else. This is about you. You shouldn't compare yourselves with other." But what's this? Shouldn't compare myself with others? Wasn't that what they did about 5 minutes ago?

You get my point.

awww im sorry
although i dont have korean parents
mandarin parents aren't that much different
especially since we're living in such an asian infested place
can you believe our high school is like 90% asian?
parents all want us to compete, yet they dont understand half the crap we have to go through
my grades aren't even good anymore, compared to those asians who have 110%, being forced to study all day and all night
i really wish the next generation of asian's (our children) wont be pressured into this shit we are

aaaanyway. enough of my ranting. this is your blog to start with anyway lol. think you could stand up to them? my parents sorta got the fact that i cant be as good as they want me to after getting a C in math last year. i just told them that no matter how hard they push, it's not gonna make me any smarter. and that the more they push me, the more im gonna fail. it helps to tell them, and eventually they will get it. or just wait until college and move outta the state :]
ahh, well just hang in there, we all know you did your best!

Just start doing drugs. Give them something to really cry about.

Damn...I just slipping into bonemonkey bad advice mood.

FORGIVENINESS PLZZZ.

Well, the problem with me is, the 100% I've gotten, was literally one of the best works she's ever seen, or at least, that's she told me. It was a response journals, yet, she said that the information was spot on, and was described incredibly well. Rant Rant Rant, and gave me that.

Afterwards, my parents and the teacher actually had a conference, and she kept saying stuff about how good I was, so they even thought I was some English Genius. Afterwards, their already high expectations had gotten way up, and they give me more terrible punishments whenever I do something that's not satisfactory to their standards. That's why I can't just go to them and tell them that.

lol. just like every other asian parents that exist. especially my parents. I could run the 100m in 9 seconds and my parents wouldn't compliment me, instead they will say why didn't you run 0.1 seconds faster? That guy was only 0.05 seconds behind you, you should have jumped out further or something. I could become emperor of the fucking universe and they still tell be to do better. better yet they would start telling me how i should manage the fucking thing.

they are going to go crazy on you once they find out you have possibly 2 F's.

My parents went nuts on me for getting a single B grade in high school... thats just how asian parents are. Once you give them any kid of expectations(aka getting A's), they EXPECT that and don't commend you each time you get an A. Other parents give their kids money for getting As and Bs, but asian parents don't do that at all (which I absolutely hated during hs... as I would have been a rich ass mofo).

When they would get mad at me, I would give them examples of people that I knew that were total fuck ups. Druggies, 2.0 students, not going to college etc. Then I would tell them to look at me and be happy that i didn't turn out that way and am getting a 3.9, going to a good college, blah blah.

gl w/ your parents man :/

Obviously you're not, this post had a ton of errors, and I didn't even finish reading it.

Though sorry to hear about your parents. My parents are fair, and as long as I don't get anything worse than a B (or more than 2 B's) they are happy with me, buy me stuff, etc.

Sorry about the errors, but I was rushing to publish this post. I'm aware of most the errors, and would correct them if I wasn't so lazy at the moment.

I don't usually take so much time on making a post, and that same rule applies for my previous posts on this thread, just like any other threads I've actually wrote in.

Also, I've never gotten anything for doing good on report cards.... I always get a "Do a better job next time".

I'm very sick of everything at the moment.

Off topic: By the way Linkiboy, are you really 14? I've read quite a few of your posts from the past, and I don't believe that you're 14. Not to be rude or anything. If that was offensive, I'm sorry about that.

That is what happens when you try and succeed at a young age, you raise the bar incredibly high, and your parents think they are doing you a favor by 'pushing' you to that level. My advice, is to barely try at all. Worked for me.

I used to be you in High School, busting balls for A's across the board, going nuts trying to formulate a plan once I discovered a couple grades fell through, dreading the delivery and (even worse) the pick-up of the progress reports and report cards...

Lemme tell ya, I look back on it now and laugh. It's seriously not worth stressing out over, you'll live through it, wake up for another education-packed day, and keep on truckin'. When I was in your position, I sat down with my mom, and started from the beginning, explaining everything in detail, calmly and smoothly. Even if she started to get a bit frustrated, I maintained that calm tone and responded as such. Listen to what they have to say and acknowledge it. Once again, I'm not sure of how likely this applies to you, since, well, I'm not Asian, but I honestly think that when it comes down to it, that shouldn't matter.

Meh, all us Asians have it tough.

My parents expect me to get 95%+ till grade 10 for every subject i take, and in grade 11 to 12 I have to score 90%+ or else I won't get in the medical schools in Asia... On top of that, I have ten billion extra ciricular classes (Chinese classes 3 hours a week, Tae kwon do 6 times a week two hours a class, three hours on saturdays, piano classes 2 hours a week, math 4 hours a week, tumbling one hour a week, swimming 4 hours a week [doing my bronze cross as of late]), on top of that I have to juggle Church, school activities, and school work. Then she complains that i never leave the house and don't have a social life.

My report card this year was... straight A's with my %s averaging 97%.. @_____@
Too bad she doesn't care about it anyway. It pisses me off that my other friends get 20 bucks for every A she gets, and this girl i know (who's father is also a doctor), got a fucking $700 PRADA cellphone for getting "straight A's" for only ONE SEMESTER.
Then i ask her what'd she get for gym and she was like, "C+"... >=( It's outrageous.

The thing w/ Asian parents is that EVEN if you DO reach their expectations, they don't compliment you or anything; they tell you: "So? Why didn't you do better than what i expected? My expectations were the BARE minimal. You'll never live up to be a better child than your brother"

I'm never going to survive high school....
/rant

look my parents aren't asian, but they have high expectations of me too.

they still hold my low (but still above average!) HS final results against me.

but after years of fighting i've slowly convinced them to let me manage my study alone.

My parents used to be like this (I'm Korean too) about 3 years ago. If your parents are anything like mine they will start to ease off when you get older (how old are you?).
Mine used to ALWAYS compare my marks with other Koreans, but I told them to stop comparing my marks and just accept I won't get higher than what I average every year, and after a few more report cards they did.
Now that I'm older they don't push me much at all, I get the occasional "Shouldn't you be studying?", but usually they trust me to do my own work without having to push me.

Actually this year (my final year in high school) my mum actually approached me saying "There's a high chance you might not get the marks to make it into uni, and will have to redo this year isn't there?".
I was like OHSHI- she's going to freak.. But she didn't! She knew I'd worked hard this year and she kind of accepted it.

Hmph, big deal, if you know your folks are that way, you might as well give it your all, trust me, I give it my all in studying(probably why I suck at games so much), not trying to show off or anything but everyone else in school(yes, even the honor students of other grades and classes) pales in comparison to my grades, that's the result of my dedication*coughperfect100%sonreportcardcough*. If you can get perfect(read:PERFECT) scores on your other subjects, you might also pwn that damn teacher of yours and give you the score you deserve!
Don't mention stereotypes, everyone is a different person, I'm also asian, although as I try to point out, that has nothing to do with anything, just stating if anyone would like to know, and I would tell you more about me but meh, I'm not the kind of person that writes EVERYTHING about myself on the net*WHORES!*. And no, that last part doesn't have anything to do with any of you, I meant people who write EVERYTHING, EVERY DAMN MINUTE OF THEIR LIVES.

Final notes: I'm not dorky/nerdy in appearance and don't hate your parents, I doubt you'll make it through a month, no, a week without their help/support, don't try to talk about anyone else/pin it on anyone else when you're being scolded and try to point it out in the nicest manner you can when they're doing it themselves and try as much as possible to prove that YOU, YOURSELF, IS TRYING WITH ALL YOUR BEST TO SHOW THEM THAT THEIR SON IS A GOOD AND SMART PERSON. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to do, never had problems with my parents and if anyone needs homework help, don't hesitate to ask.

this makes me glad im only 25% asian

Sorry to hear that man, Uzbekistani parents are also terrible, mainly due to the communist influence from Russians. My parents expected me to get A+ in a fucking top notch University's Engineering course, while I came back with a C+. My father made me work in heavy laborer for a month because of that. Oh well, once I get out of this hell hole, I shall be free as a mother fucker.

Linki, if you stayed in Russia, you would be able to do that in sixth grade. At least that's how it was in the smaller soviet states like my country.

You'll have to get over it.

Obviously, your parents care for you and your future.
They want you to make good grades and have a bright future.

You're lucky you have caring parents and not some people who don't give a shit about their kids and let them roam anywhere, do anything, and don't have/enforce any rules.

Don't bitch about your parents, you're lucky you have them and that they care.

I have Russian textbooks for math, and no, no I couldn't have. Maybe one or two things from 8th grade (Geometry) as I see angles in here and shit. 7th grade was Algebra, and this is basically that. And we start school a year later than American kids (therefore I technically never had 2nd grade, I went from 1 to 3) so really, it looks the same.
