Pokemon: This Time, It's Different

So, last time I've managed to ruin Pokemon Platinum for myself. I managed to track down the dumped rom and played that for ages, happily. When the official release day came along, I happily picked up my copy and my giratina figure. It then proceeded to sit on my shelf for ages.

Then cheats began pouring out of the gaming circles. I started using cheats for my rom, and then it became rather dull. I could get anything, buy anything, see any rare pokemon and even Pokeradar semi-legit shiny chains. I started playing with cheats - it's easier than going...I'm going to spend DAYS leveling just to get my Pokemon up in experience. (Nope, not my style, sorry.)

So, I'm still playing on my flashcart, intending to plaster the save back onto my legit copy. One day, after fiddling in AnimalMap (ACWW's editor), my microSD dies. It's deader than a doorknob, and I lose all of my saves, including Pokemon Platinum. So, I never tack my save onto the real cart.

I start playing Pokemon Platinum again, but with legit Pokemon and some of the shinies I had accumulated over the years with Diamond and Pearl. I then got stuck. I hate distortion world with a passion - it makes me queasy and I rather be playing with anything else. So, my legit cart goes back into "don't play" mode.

So now, I say I won't do these things to my enjoyment of Pokemon SoulSilver:

- use cheats
- use Pokesav
- play the dumped ROM before getting the real one
- use strategy guides
- EV train (yes, that was the most annoying of them all - EV training and caring about high IV's)

So, yeah. I'm going to do a play through like I did in Gold when I first got it. No trading (well, maybe one or two starters), and no cheats. And definitely NO EV training. If I get stuck, I will try to get through it with just my Pokemon skills.

Anyhow, wish me luck in the Pokemon Center competition my university has cooked up. Apparently, one of the prizes is Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver!

This thread is now about how it ruined Pokemon when you found out about EV's and IV's

Only joking.
But I think everyone that is planning to get the release would do that |:

I found out about them in ruby/sapphire, but never did anything about it until Pokemon Diamond. Then it just because tedious. My point is, games should not feel like a chore!

Same here. I'm just gonna enjoy the game for what it is. I'm not gonna worry about EV training and all that shit. I used to care, and it was just a chore. I'm not a competitive player by any means, so I shouldn't waste hours of my time EV training.

i have never EV trained..... but i still buy the guide book since i consider it a collectible... like eventually it will be worth something... i am also doing what you are doing.... not using the ROM, i'm buying the game... i don't even use the book unless i need to know when pokemon learn moves :P

so.... maybe the pokewalker will be used in the next GEN games...

enjoy PokeEnd!!! (pokemon weekend)

Well, I'm doing a clean run too until I beat the story (Red).
There's really no way you can beat Battle Frontier without hacks or EV training.
Plus, I don't like having to go to real-life events for certain Pokemon, given my age.

Yeah, Pokemon weekend. Now to finish studying and whip up an essay. God, procrastination hurts.

*gets Pikachu to Thunderbolt me if I get up before finishing Chapter 9 notes*
