Hacking, brick code, TX...

Hackers and reverse engineers, they do what they do for fun right?
I imagine it's fun, a real puzzle, and very rewarding when it's done and you understand exactly how it works.

Surely they would be a little disappointed if it took 10 minutes to crack SX OS.
Add a little risk in there to spice things up?

From a purely 'puzzle' perspective of cracking SX OS, maybe SX OS is good fun.

If you are really careful, you could do stuff like this to protect your nand.
Because did any hacker really think there wouldn't be brick code? (Especially after gw)
The people who probably get to that stage of decryption where they actually get a brick, I would imagine they are also the types of people that would be able to restore their device.

hexkys - "... I wouldn't try to run a closed-source piece of software at a system's highest possible level of execution privilege if I wasn't sure of what could happen. Naturally, I reserved one unit that I didn't care much about for experimenting with this."

hexkys is still eager to reverse it, so, I don't see what the problem is*.

*AS LONG AS IT NEVER HAPPENS TO NORMAL USERS
If any normal regular user gets bricked, that's a big shame, if TX can't properly implement brick code, then they should stop and remove it.

I can honestly imagine a scenario where a little kid god TX OS for his birthday from his parents who somewhat know about hacking. He uses it, and bricks. Neither him or his parents know what to do. The kid is crying as he can't use his $300 switch anymore. They have no nand backups. All this because some faulty brick code

Yeah but there haven't been any 'accidental' bricks yet.
I'm not being heartless, if someone like that kid in your story gets bricked, it is TX's fault.
But, it hasn't happened, so, let's just enjoy their work. (inb4 'yet') :)

I'm glad hexkyz isn't in a clique.

But yeah, I agree, if it's a random trigger, it's Tx's fault, and if they are a good company like they say, they should pay for it.
(Though Idk why a parent would buy their kid a device that "Jailbreaks"{Direct quote} the Nintendo switch, since most parents see jailbreaking as illegal.)

@tanglangxia - hey!
I believe xci and 'eshop' packages are very similar, and easy to convert.

Maybe I am wrong. But I have not read a lot about it.

Dev: "Yes, so, I confirm there's a brick code. It could be triggered under certain conditions, and messing with the code is one of them"
Misinformed GBAtemp users: "Boooh you deserved it! Shouldn't mess with the code, propanganda against TX!"
Dev: "...you do realise it's still confirmed that there IS a brick code implemented, right?"
Misinformed GBAtemp users: "Fuck you! Hater! Reeeeee"

I swear to god, this is exactly how it has been all night. Team Xecuter shills and other loud mouths...

i doubt "accidental" bricks are a thing, unless you are a dev and are experiencing, but normal users i don't think they can toggle the brick code it unless they really try...

if i would get such a device for a console i wouldn't be worried, but i understand how shitty it feels to have such measures.
i mean, the reason why we like to modify our systems is to defeat theese same measures in official games\consoles\OS, so we can be free and do whatever we want. (including but not limited to piracy)
buying a device to defeat theese drm systems\measures, and having it's own "drm" it seems silly
but i do understands they just want to cash grab as quick before someone develops a free actual cfw

@migles It can happen, since it's cpu, it's prone to fault, Tho the chances are slim, like a winning the lottery but in a morbid way.

I don't think it's like playing the lottery each time you boot up SX OS. (hope not!)

hexkyz says it's about code execution timing (and a commenter, maybe fake i guess, says this isn't the case ha, and to RE it more, but the commenter should give proof)
but, if it really is about the timing, it matters about the threshold of error.

I'm sure TX didn't make it too strict, because that's dumb.

Not a fan of the brick code. I think a much better way would have been a splash screen "Don't pirate the pirate" and the only way to "fix it" is to use a non custom version of their code or remove the autoboot.

TX won't crumble lol, they aren't an empire. Gateway did me well for a few years.

I hope they do well and give ua loads of features, they have made much more progress/given us much more progress. Plus tue dongle is nice and easy to use. Very clever tobuse capacitors like they did.

With switch cdn being how it is, it might be better that we are spoofing carts instead of using eshop dumps, at least they are easy to dump, and no installation etc.

If there was a diagnostics menu option with SX OS, I'd be worried lol. Remember my poor 3DS drama a few years back:)
