Nails on your belt for prom? Isn't that a bit silly?

I'd choose something a bit more conservative.

Meh, in a close-up view it doesn't look very good, but from where most people are going to see it from, it looks fine.

I'm having prom in a few weeks, but I already got my wear together. Ordinary suit and pants with 'em, but to stand out a bit and not use the ordinary light blue, white and pink shirts (Sweden -.-), I took a turquoise shirt and a darker, slim plaid turquoise tie, and some normal black leather shoes. It might sound a bit queer, but some colors can make you look better than the typical ones.
If your body build ranges from: V-shaped to l l-shaped, a belt like that ridiculous one you posted will be unnecessary, provided you can find proper length and waist measurements (I applied to the latter, but needed a longer length)

The key to the prom clothes is to experiment with the colors, really. Turquoise happens to match my body build, but if you are clueless, try finding colors within the range of the primary colors blue and red and its shades and tints and mixtures. There's no going wrong there, really.

Ha. For prom, (god, that was a hideously long time ago) I ended up wearing a striped pantsuit, a low cut blouse with really tacky sparkly sequins. I think I'd do the same this year for my cousin's wedding.

i would say dress shirt with a dress vest
and dress pants, with nice shoes
