Since it was originally for GBA titles that could be only downloaded for a temporary time, that's how the name was formed.  It just kept the name even upon the rise of the DS, PSP, etc.

MK7 has an effect on Streetpass! If you play online EVERYONE you meet will end up in Streetpass. And if you LOVE to play online,you'll have TONS of Miis in the plaza. It's redonkulas! (I have 628 Miis!) Most of them are from Japan so I can't read their freakin' names!
