I'm planning on buying an xbox 360 this fall or early winter to get my hands on some exclusive games (both current and upcoming).

The choices I'm faced with are:
a. Pay a little more for a modded system. And then rent+rip the games I want.
or
b. Get a regular one. And then buy the games I want, as there's not that many (but just enough to make me want a 360 obviously).

And so what I want to know is, is it worth getting a modded system if I already have a modded PS2 and Wii?

I know there are emulators out the wazoo for it, but I can already emulate just about anything with my PS2, Wii, and NDS afaik.

I'm referring the the GC stuff since the Wii will run it.
I have GC, but not modded. So I never did any GC homebrew until I got my Wii.

If you want to play on XboxLIVE I don't think it is wise to mod it with either a chip or the firmware flash, currently you can use the iXtreme firmware to go online with a modded console but they may be banned further down the track, which sucks trust me.

I personally have both a PS2 & a Wii and I play my 360 way more than both so I definitely think it's worth it to grab one.

With the homebrew that isn't currently available on the 360, the current hacks only allow you to run backup discs and don't let you run unsigned programs, so no emulators or homebrew games ATM.

I had thought that XBox (original) homebrew would work on a modded 360.

Anyway, I guess I'll stick to unmodded. Despite that I suck at most console FPSs, I would like to play with my buddy who plays on XBL (and is moving soon

).
Now I just have to figure out which version to get (core, elite, etc).

Homebrew on the 360 is pretty much none existant. The only reason the was so much excellent homebrew for the xbox is because the SDK or XDK was leaked. Allowing people to use the tools software developers use. This of course means that it is totally illegal to distrobute software made with the XDK but everyone did anyway.

The xbox could run unsigned because the bios had been dumped and hacked allowing it to be placed on a modchip and used instead of the origional. Alternativy the softmod dumps the hacked bios onto bios chip and runs allowing the same homebrew unsigned code to run. This is not the case of the 360 or any of the next gen consoles.

The 360 cannot run xbox homebrew
All software that is homebrew has to be written in ASM because of the lack of a SDK / XDK

There are ways for the 360 to run homebrew

Hypervisor Exploit (mostly patched now)

King Kong Shader Expolit (still requires flashed drive)

And the final way of running homebrew using a exploit in the media player.
