Yes, switch the theme. That way you can tell them apart.Think I have everything sorted out.
Is there an easy way to tell if I'm in EmuNAND or SysNand (CakesFW)?

The easiest way is to power the console off, take the SD card out, boot the console into the homemenu, put the SD card back in and set a theme. Then you'll easily be able to tellMakes sense, thanks! Is there a way to know that i'm successfully in EmuNAND for the first time after installing? For example, if I boot into Cakes with the enable EmuNAND patch selected and have separated sysNAND and EmuNAND, am I definitely in EmuNAND?
Step 3
Browserhax
NOTE: you will need an internet connection set up for this step
first we're going to install Browserhax
you'll need
once you have those things
- An SD card
- A computer
- your 3ds
Step 4
- on your computer go here
- download the homebrew starter kit
- unzip it onto your SD card
- put the SD card into your 3ds
- power the 3ds on
- on your computer's browser go here
- on the 3ds turn WiFi off
- press L & R this will open the camera app
- once the camera app opens tap the checkerboard icon
- scan the QR code on the computer
- once the browser loads hit home and then turn WiFi back on
- open the browser again and the homebrew launcher should load
Themehax
you'll need
Once you have those things
- your SD card
- your 3ds
- start Browserhax
- start the Themehax installer, it should already be on your SD card from the homebrew starter kit
- follow the onscreen instructions to install Themehax
- turn the 3ds off and then hold L while booting to start the homebrew launcher
If you like, yes you can boot Cakes from the homebrew menu and you could skip those steps, yesOnce I successfully downgrade my n3ds, If I installed Homebrew *hax 2.5 using the OotHax method can I skip steps 3 and 4 and proceed right along with step 5?
I may just go ahead and choose Cakes. I don't really know the differences in CFW. All I really want to do is continue using Homebrew Apps and learn more about running DSi Ware like I mentioned. I would basically boot Cakes CFW from Homebrew correct?
Since the theme is stored on the SD card when you boot with it out it won't give you a theme... so the red theme is most likely sysNAND and booted through gridlauncher is probably emuNANDI've managed to confuse myself further. I've somehow set things up so that:
- Boot without SD card, no theme
- Boot with SD card, red theme (EmuNAND?)
- Boot into gridloader through menuhax (holding L during startup), launch CakesFW with emunand enabled patch, blue theme (still EmuNAND?)
you can either make your CIAs region free or just use freemultipatcher freemultipatcher does require a restart each time you restart the console howeverIf I may offer another thing one can do to tell the difference between emunand and sysnand on Cakes: Change the names of your profile in the System Options with no SD card in. Like I put my name in as Sysnand and left my Emunand to my standard name. Then you can just look at the settings to confirm if you're on emunand by the profile name and then move on up updating safely.
A quick question of my own though, is there a simple region free solution for Cakes?
Thanks, I knew I'd be missing a straight forward solution for that and there it is. Freemultipatcher seems like the simpler choice for my interests.you can either make your CIAs region free or just use freemultipatcher freemultipatcher does require a restart each time you restart the console however
Go stuck at this, Do I have to put the rxtools folder anywhere on the SD card? Because I've been trying but it won't start anything after ''loading rxtools.dat''
- ''for rxTools go to http://launch.rxtools.net it will load, congrats!''
This is the old url, there is another one for the new rxtools. I don't know where it is right now.
Yup that was the one. Good find. just make sure your code.bin is at /rxTools/sys/code.bin

So, yeah, that's the other thing, I downloaded the rxtools but in the tutorial I didn't find any line saying where should I put it, is it at the root of the SD?
rxTools folder should be at the SD card's root, yes.
