From what I read on another thread, it looks like Mario Maker requires a FW higher than 5.3.2. Was really hoping I wouldn't have to choose between game and Wii U hacking... :(
And since it has online features, because of that asshat Ryanrocks, it requires the latest firmware: 5.5.0.

Do you think it is worth updating system?
Depends on how much you like the premise of Mario Maker.

I do love it, but I don't get overly hyped about it to buy it just yet because of reasons.

Just a suggestion though, I would suggest you wait up until october to see if the IOSU exploit is released or to hopefully have a spoofer up by that month.

Really torn about what to do now. I went to play Mario Kart 8 online, and it seems we now need a system update in addition to having the game up to date. I get prompted about updating before I can access Nintendo Network.
The scene is mainly fixated on RAM modification and file replacement at the moment; neither of which interest me. Might be time to just update and move on.
"The scene" isn't fixated on that... Just us end users who like playing around with it since we can't go online :P
I believe Marionumber1, NWPlayer123, hykem, et al are working on various things, including IOSU exploits and firmware spoofing.

Hopefully we'll get some form of emuNAND or sneekU/uneekU/neek2oU (?) allowing you to run the actual firmware (plus a few strategic patches) guaranteeing 100% binary compatibility. But patience will be required. Mine is still at 3.1.0 so that should tell you something.

because of the surfaced IOSU exploit?

I personally disagree with the idea of FW spoofing, mostly for the fact that it allows a direct door to ruining online.

Personally,

I could literally give .02 about online play. I would like the ability to access the eshop though, for DLC and VC games. However, I have another WiiU that is fully up to date so I still get those things, its just on my kids Wii U and not mine.

there is always the possibility of just doing enough to bypass on disk updates but not bypass online checks, generally speaking the former is easier, although i would like online and eshop access i know asshats would be asshats and ruin it all anyway

Also, idk what the differences are... but I just built the osdriver/kernel that FIX94 made edits to from 9/4/15 (link) and it works 100x better than the osdriver_v2 that I was using.

Attached for anyone else that wants to try.
Thanks for this! Works wonderfully for me :)

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
