I'll have to do it from system menu as putting in any game disc at any point brings up the error message and requires a reboot. I'll give it a go tonight and report back, many thanks.

Won't update from system menu either. Brings up error message 32007 and asks me to check Internet settings. They're fine, I can test connection and it says 'connection fine, would you like to system update?' I click yes and after a second of trying to update it throws up the 32007 error. There's nothing wrong with my Internet or the connection as it's just sent me a message thing saying the Nintendo Wi-Fi servers will be shut down in May of 2014.

Is there any other way of install Nintendos official 4.3? Can't do it through a game disc or the system menu.

Wait, I'm lying. I'd messed about with that recovery menu thing and turned on block online updates because I'm an idiot. It's updating now.

Still won't work. On 4.3E now. I'm confused though as the update said 'all unauthorised stuff will be deleted' yet the home brew channel and neo gamma are still there and still work?

If there's any other suggestions I'd be willing to try them. Why it doesn't load VC games or Wii channels but will load the Home brew channel and Neo Gamma is beyond me. It also insta crashes as soon as I put a disk in and the drive has read it, throwing up the disc error. Drive sounds normal to me when reading discs.

im atill not 100% about the line in your syscheck that says could not detect drive type... I dont think thats normal... Mine displays an actual date.
Could indicate a fault with your drive...

Maybe so but surely if the drive fails it wouldn't force it to black screen on all channels except the homebrew ones? Super Mario Bros for the NES bought from the Shop Channel doesn't need the disc drive yet it just black screens when you press it and forces a reboot.

Is it a complete write off at this point or is there anything else at all I could try? I'll try anything, no matter how drastic. It's practically a brick to me like this. Thanks for all your help so far.

I thought that reinstalling all the ios and things that modmii wanted you to update would of fixed all that, dont know what else could be causing the problem. Its certainly a weird case.

Now that you have upgraded to 4.3 your Priiloader has een removed. Unless you ave bootmii install in boot2 I highly recommend that you install Priiloader again to get some brick protection.

Could unplug the disc drive. As in, take the connector thing off the motherboard? Then boot it and see how it behaves? How do I get Priiloader again? Just use ModMii and tell it I'm on 4.3 now?

I'm about to take it apart and disconnect the DVD drive, just looking for the right screwdriver!

It seems that the drive date can also not be found on mine, so i would speculate that that's the problem here.

Thanks

Riccorbypro

EDIT: so now I'm meant to remove the disk from a DVD drive that doesn't exist??? I think that my Wii is dead...
