I would have kept it and played my games like always. But the modding scene has definitely kept me more interested in the console than I otherwise would have been. I bought a PS3 for Christmas since that console has been gaining momentum as of late while the Wii simply hasn't.

i would still be trying to hack the wii. it just made it a whole lot easier that the community already had that taken care of by the time i got my wii.

Well when I got mine, on November 19 2006, there was no word of hard or soft mod, nobody knew it was going to be so easy after a few months.................
So I didn't plan on hack it at all, after all even the Cube was hard to mod because of the expensive and difficult to install chips not to mention the whole case had to be modified in order to accommodate standard sized dvd instead of the expensive mini dvds.............
Like the GC I was gonna buy all the major games ( the ones a truly love and can't get on other consoles, like Metroid, Zelda and Paper Mario ) and get some of the other games a little later maybe used or discounted just to give it a try.
I know that when a new Nintendo system comes out is bound to get sequels to my favorite franchises, so no question about it I was gonna get it and keep it anyway.
Of course I'd be playing PC games in between to keep me busy, and for sure I was gonna spare myself the horror of the huge amount of shovel ware that occasionally I tend to get just because it's free ( not to mention that since the configurable usb loader I'm not even wasting a blank dvd on those ).
I actually think I would be better off without piracy, I would get less games ( and I would make sure that the games were really worth it ) and I would enjoy them to the fullest, without rushing to the next game feeling guilty because there are so many to choose from..............
Of course I like to try them all, but it's impossible to finish all of them, and I feel guilty.........
Mhmm.....I think piracy makes me feel guilty at this point..............would I be better off without it ? It's very likely I will. Would I miss all the free shovel war ? Maybe I will, maybe not..........

I'd never have bought one in the first place.

There are only a couple of first party games I could justify spending $50 on. Certainly not enough to justify the cost of the console, accessories, and space in my entertainment centre.

Without modding it becomes a 'would I rather buy this Wii title, or for the same money get a AAA PS3/Xbox title that will make the Wii game look primitive' question. Like I said, there are only a few Wii titles that can compete with the tons of excellent games that the PS3/Xbox360 have.

I can only really think of 2 that I would actually buy. SMG and Zelda:TP.

I picked the Wii over PS3 and 360 because it could be hacked. I usually only buy two or three games for any console and hacking it extends it's life for me.

With the N64 I played Zelda OoT twice, Starfox 64 6 times, Turok 1/4 of the way, and that was it. After that the system collected dust and sits in a box in the attic. It's the same story for SNES and PS1.

I got started with softmods with my second PS2. I owned 12 games (Dot hack counts as 4) and some of the dvd's were scratched to hell, like FF10 wouldn't play past the beginning. So I softmoded it and put a HD in the sucker (Had to download FF10, my copy wouldn't even read on the computer). Now it's my most favorite system in the house. Though the Wii is gaining ground.

I got a PSP when I heard they were going to become unhackable and hacked it. I own three games for it (Disgaea 1&2, and FF7CC). The rest are emulators (Snes and GBA mainly) and Ps1 classics like FF7,8,9 and Chrono Cross etc repacked.

That's when I decided it was time to get a Wii since I heard it could be hacked. Got one, hacked it, and have made it a life goal to collect every game ever made for it on a massive USB drive. I only bothered getting Zelda TP, and Mario Wii (Which I never played from the dvd, it went straight to the USB drive) I wouldn't of even bothered with it if it couldn't be hacked. I did the same with a DS. I bought FF4 and Mario (The one that's like wii) and then CycloDS's it. I love Savestate!

I like owning my systems. Hacking it is a big part of that. And then there is having your whole collection on one MicroSD card or a USB HD. There is also those rare impossible to get games that are easy to get online. Finding a copy of Evolution Worlds was insane even online. There's something about 'Ultra Exclusive, must preorder to get and only 1000 copies made' on my system years after the fact. Makes it worth it.

I don't own a PS3 or 360, both are unhackable (or so I've heard) for the most part. I own a Wii, 2 DS's, and PSP because they were hackable. And it was the PS2 that showed me that it was not just possible to softmod, but ran faster with more options.

Besides, Nintendo has made a fortune off me in accessories. 2 Gamecube controllers, 3 Gameboy SP units and cables, one memeory card. Then 3 wii motes and 2 nunchucks. I got two DS's since I had a library of multiplayer games. I really wish I would have purchased a second PSP for multiplayer.

After spending my entire college fund and partially ruined my adult life buying ORIGINAL gamecube games before the Wii came out, hacking my Wii and getting to play all the great games without spending a penny felt like sweet justice.

btw, I bought the Wii before I even knew there was a hack.

if i couldn't code for the wii like i do now, i would have kept it and play/buy more games then i do now. most of my wii time is coding lol ... even if megaman 9 still needs to be finished :/

(and on a note, every wii is hackable, but none of you guys never hacked it; me neither. what you mean is softmodable )

Meh, I had my Wii for a year or so before I hacked, and probably 1 1/2 to 2 years before I started pirating games for it.

I would probably have a longer attention span. When you pirate, you seem to lose interest in games quicker since you know there's always another game to play. When you don't, you realize you've got only your selection of games and not much cash to buy new ones (which is the case with me), and thus you play games to their fullest and replay them a few times as well. Hell, I played Twilight Princess through 4-5 times because there was nothing else to do, really.

I'd also be playing a lot of Mario Kart Wii and The Conduit, since they both have excellent online modes and can easily be those "100+ hour" games that the 360/PS3 has.

Exactly how i feel, i got 40 Wii games or so downloaded, and i haven't played more then 1 hour on most of them.

I'd probably be buying games. I didn't ask for or even want a wii at the time. It was a birthday present along with a copy of Pokemon Battle Revolution (still my most played game). Later bought Wii Play, MKWii, Wii Fit, and a few others.

My friend introduced me to homebrew. First app he showed me was wad installer + a copy of a Sonic 2 VC. Later on, when backup loaders came out, I tried them. It was soooo buggy in the early days. Remember having to decrypt ISOs to use them?

Anyway, now I'm running a USB Loader, and have no plan to go back.

I bought a Wii on LaunchDay (actually, 3 days before that ^^, lucky me )
And I've loved it ever since!

It being hackable and thus for us softmodable adds a big plus to the experience.
I allready own 11 wii games and I stopped buying them when the USB loaders came out.
I did however keep buying accesories lik the wiimotion plus, twice and the balance board etc...

At first i was like "hell yeah, download all wiigamezz!!" But then i got a HD full of wii games for wich I didn't have time to play. Then I had to move the wii isos from one HD to another (a smaller one wich didn't need a power supply). But I lost everything...

So, instead of downloading it all again, I started backing up the games I bought and downloading ONLY the games I really felt like playing.
If i'm really a fan of a game, I plan on buying it. (Like NSMBW)

But I guess that depends on what game it is. I really liked Lego Indianna Jones but i'm not going to buy it :/ NSMBW has more of a collection value to me

So... yeah... I'll probably only buy the best first party games from nintendo and download the rest ^^
But, hey, that's reality for most people here i guess?

I actually bought my wii at the time i knew mariokart was comming for it, didn't care to much at that time if it could be hacked or not.

But hey lets be real a hacked Wii is a nice thing afterall since there are a lot of games that are worth playing for a while, but not worth spending the money on to own the game. However the best games I still buy cause I do think the Wii game developers deserve money to make even more great games

besides the Wii console doesn't cost that much, so i would still buy it even it could not be hacked.

As a Non-Wii owner, i would say that i would have never bought it in the 1st place if it werent hackable

I mean lets face it, once you've finished the 7 or so good games on the Wii its pretty much well useless.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
