Hi All,

I'm totally green with the modding stuff on Wiis (and in general), but I managed to follow a tutorial and got The Homebrew Channel/USB Loader GX onto my console. Those both work (somewhat) fine, but recently I've had a problem with playing a specific disc (Monopoly Streets) through the Disc Channel. When I insert the disc, instead of the channel showing Monopoly Streets it prompts me to system update. I attempted to do a little research before doing anything (and I'm glad I did) because apparently the system update goes through the IOS files (specifically IOS 249) and deletes them, replacing them with a stub (empty code). If I had updated, I would've probably bricked my Wii. So I tried to find a way around the System Update, and found two apps (apps?): Priiloader and StartPatch. I've heard that Priiloader is the way to go from the majority, but I checked http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Priiloader which clearly states "IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO INSTALL PRIILOADER ONLY ON A WII WITH ONLY UNMODIFIED IOSs!" so I'm a little hesitant. On the other hand, I've heard that StartPatch is less used and more techy/complex. I know that there are a lot of threads on Priiloader and StartPatch, but neither seem to directly answer this question (no one in the threads gives clear reasoning as to why they prefer one over the other). Can someone tell me how I should go about this issue?

Thanks,

Do not use StartPatch. Use Priiloader. It's probably less likely to brick your system than other things you've done to it. Priiloader also offers a form of minor brick protection.

So Priiloader it is then. Thanks for the advice!
Remember to grab the hacks_hash.ini from https://github.com/DacoTaco/priiloader/blob/master/priiloader/hacks_hash.ini and copy it to sd:\apps\priiloader
It contains all the patches for the system menu so without it you won't be able to block system updates among other things.
I'm not sure if this is the newest hacks_hash.ini available, the original google code page is dead so I assume it is the latest but either way it should contain what you want.

Yeah, the /apps/ folder that I downloaded came with the .ini file I think. I was able to bypass the System Update, so I'm happy.

You can also bypass the disc updates by running them via Riivolution. It's a patching program that let's you edit the games by changing content (textures, levels, characters, etc.) but you can also use it to run the discs without using the disc channel. If you run the disc with no patches it should play just like normal, but it won't try to run the disc update. Also, you have the added bonus of being able to play some awesome game hacks if you care to dive into that!
