I want to buy Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Does Uplay do anything that users dislike? Such as starting up when you boot up the computer or some kind of annoying DRM? How can I get an email notification when the game is on sale on Uplay without a Uplay account?

Slightly off topic but how can I get a notification when Steam games are on sale when I do not have a Steam account?

If you want to keep track of sales, just use isthereanydeal.com
Uplay in itself is a DRM, just like steam is. Starting on boot is a setting, just like with steam.
It's just ubisofts own storefront, just like origin is EA's.

its pretty bad, even worse than steam. I recommend acquiring ubisoft games through "other means"

    Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    @BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

    You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
