I've been running DS2's for the past 8 or 10 years and sc DS1i's also on my DSi. IMO the DS1i was almost as good as the DS2 on the DS games even though it couldn't do the GBA emu..., but I have an R4 and an R4i that were purchased from within the first year they came out, I'm pretty sure one is an original, based on the ID'ing the chip inside it per the pics on this site. I've been keeping them for when my present 3 DSi's die, the next one I'll get will be another ds lite.

I found most every R4 [clone] site had a firmware (read not necc. kernel) that would run those R4is. IOW most copied the original, but each copy changed one or two files as they released.. I have many of the firmwares I used archived/ on HD's in the event they became no longer available.

I loved that DS lite model but hated replacing hinges (and re-building the buttons with springs) Having been working on a O3ds replacing the hinge, it makes those DS lites seem easy/simple. My huge sausage fingers/hands can't reinsert the ribbon cables to complete the job. (NOTE to self; try and retro fit the N3ds hinge into a DS lite -good luck self pft)

I know, off topic kind of thought there was some (minor) value there...

  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
is there any gba homebrew that would offer use for that?

The Touchscreen makes using system menu options for brightness and filter adjustments easier

@ColdBlitz, who said anything about touchscreen?

On screen keys would be cool if the rubber ever fails
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I feel like at that point might as well go emulation lol

    One of those RG things
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Some people just like using original hardware for the hobby point of it
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
You can easily buy replacement buttons but it's a good fall back
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
on screen keys would be cool but the gba screen is pretty tiny though :(
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'd rather use emulation but it's cool regardless again the main point of the Touchscreen isn't just for buttons but for menu options
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
would be way better for menu options
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
although I have huge doubts anyone would be able to make homebrew that would give support for the touch screen
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
then again theres still people who develop games on systems as old as the nes for fun
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
    (
    micromages is amazing btw)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I doubted 360 emulation would be possible
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
yet here we are seeing ps4 and even some (very experimental
    ) ps5 emulation
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Ps5 emulation? Why
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I always thought Saturn emulation would straight up be impossible
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Just the atchiture is insanely complex
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
That's why it annoys me when people rant about things being impossible when it comes to software some things should just be focused on more than others
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
because they want to flex their insane developer skills ofc
