Personally I love the DS4, but the DS3 and Wii Classic Controller are close behind; that's probably because I tend to grip the controller, so their smaller size doesn't bother me. I've not used it extensively, but the Switch Pro Controller feels even better than those; too bad they've botched the dpad and the triggers.

Not necessarily the worst I've ever tried (that dubious honour goes to some no-name third party controller), but I don't understand what's special about the Xbox 360 controller; every time I try to hold it I feel like I'm trying to choke a baby seal. Besides, it has by far the worst dpad I've ever used (including third party controllers).

The PS3 controller on the other hand is super light and can easily break if dropped.

It does feel flimsy while holding it, but in my experience it's actually extremely resistant; I lost count of how many time I've dropped it, and it still works like it was brand new.

Favorites depends on the game genre, for the more general use, XBoner controller = #1 for sure. For Souls games, I find the DS3 controller is king, just because I prefer the general feel of the triggers and shoulder buttons on the DS3 controller than I do the 360/Xboner controller for those particular games. I also like the DS4 controller as well, but I don't use it for everything like I do on DS3/Xboner, but it's still a nice controller overall.

Least favorites, most of Nintendo's modern controllers. I like the NES/SNES/GC controllers well enough, and the Switch Pro controller is good (except for digital triggers, gross), but not the N64, Wiimotes, Wii Useless gamepad, or the Joycons. Wii U Pro controller is ok, but I don't like the analog stick positions so I don't use it. Don't like the Wiimotes, mainly cuz I don't like the motion control gimmick. Don't like the Wii Useless gamepad because the battery is garbage, too bulky, and I don't like the analog stick placements. Don't like the Joycons when they're disconnected from the Switch, I find them too small for my hands on their own, and the shitty grip is just bad.

Wish i could say the same but cant. I droped my ds3 controller from a hight of about 25 centimetres and the thing stoped working altogether. So i bought another one only for my wife to drop the new one from a similar hight and that also stoped working. So then had to buy a third one only for that to brake all by itself after about three months. So i then bought a cheap 3rd party controller and that has been droped numerous times and still works perfectly.

All time favourite: Xbox 360. Nothing beats it yet. Xbox one controller feels more like a downgrade. Lacks the quality feel and I can’t describe it, but doesn’t feel the same in the hands.

Least favourite: Nintendo 64. I still get confused on how to hold that thing when playing certain games. Am sure there has been worse controllers out there, but this is my personal worst.

my favorite controllers are on the nintendo dsi xl and on the ps vita because i like to play games using the d-pad and on those devices i think the d-pad is the best. i much more prefer the ps3 controller over the xbox 360 controller because it's smaller ,more comfortable for me and less complex.
so this is my ranking from best to worse:
1. ps vita and dsi xl.
2. gamecube controller.
3. nintendo 3ds (old and new)
4. psp 3000 (but the screen is awful)
5. ps3 controller
6. switch joy cons.
7. wii u gamepad. (i know it's big but i almost always use the gamepad screen).
8. xbox 360 controller. (i dont have xbox one or ps4 so i don't know how those controllers feels);
9. wiimote

The original Xbox controller was rather bad. There are way worse though, mostly from plug & play consoles, famiclones and the like. For some reason they can never seem to get the controls right.
The 360 controller is one of my favorites, but it's ruined slightly by the D-Pad, so I'd have to say the Switch Pro Controller is the best out of the ones I've used.

1, Switch Pro
2. Gamecube
3. WiiU Pro
4. Xbox 360 (maybe xbone, never used one too much)
5. PS4

Usually helps to have the analog stick placed above the dpad. I do like the N64 controller to if I'm playing N64

360 controller is a work of art.
I tie it in first place with the Xbone Elite controller.

After that I got the GCN controller.

Controller I hate the most is the Dreamcast controller.
So plasticy and horrible.
Also, wtf is up with the cable sticking out of the bottom!?

Ohyeh, N64 for their thumbstick.
Fucking horrible.

My list is exactly the same! And oh yeah, that Dreamcast controller... GOOD GOD it's awful.

I can agree with OP, PS3 controller is terrible. Along with everything OP said, the D-Pad is just terrible! Until the XBOX One, Nintendo was the only company that got D-Pads right, and even so, the DRC (Wii U Gamepad) has a better D-Pad IMO.
So, my favorite is probably the Atari 5400 controller DRC. It's got a great D-Pad, really nice ABXY buttons, and great triggers and bumpers. It also has quite good analog sticks, and the START/SELECT buttons are really good. I also like the nice touch of the HOME button's LED.
Also, the HOME button is a lot better name than th Guide (XBOX) button or PS button, since it does exactly what it says-brings up the HOME menu.

I like the Wii U Pro controller, Gamecube controller and SNES controller.

I'm not a fan of the design of Playstation controllers and the N64 controller's analogue stick gave me the shits back in the day. The Wii U gamepad is alright but really gets outshined by the Wii U Pro controller.

It's fairly clicky. The center pivot on them is very small though, so the whole D-Pad can be pressed in. A recent change (introduced with the Xenoblade Pro Controller) adds a bigger center pivot, which some people prefer. I don't mind it at all personally, and hadn't even noticed until people pointed it out.
