Hacking Verified "Y cable" hdd setups

Anyone use a Y cable setup? I want my HDD to go on and off automatically so I'm interested in using a 2.5inch drive and a Y cable for power. My 2.5 enclosure has a female usb so I guess my Y cable would need to be 1 male to 2 male.

I own a 2.5" HDD enclosure with USB 2.0 Y cables as well and it works on my Wii and Wii U.

Is there anything unique about your Y cable or your 2.5 enclosure?

I use a Y-cable, and I've never had any issues. Unless your external hard drive has an external power source, you don't really have a choice with a Wii U and its USB ports; you must use a Y-cable.

I got this Y-Cable to go with a 1TB WD My Passport drive and they work fine
