I don’t really see it as wasted time. In my situation I don’t really play my 3DS anymore. Now that the preloads are up I can do what I’ve been doing and still have a copy anyway. For free.
And anyways if a leak does come out I’ll probably get it anyway and throw it on my spare standard 3DS

It's hardly a waste of time to install pre-loads if you bought them, or want them digitally. Network traffic on release is terrible and that's the entire point of downloading them NOW and only needing a small update on release vs downloading 3.7 GB on a clogged server.
Yeah if a leak pops up and people install it, the pre-load was a waste of time but that isn't the case for every single person waiting. Stop assuming everyone who wants a pre-load thinks they can play early; some people just don't want to bottleneck on release.

Totally agree with your post, but how bad it really is?
I bought SSB4 and Pokemon AS both on launch-fiveminutes and they downloaded in less than a hour...
I believe back when SuMo released the actual eshop servers had crashed and you couldnt do anything what so ever for those titles.
Didn't know that, pretty funny what the demand for "interactive" movies is nowadays lol
