Trying to setup FHDB, black screen after opening FMCBinstaller.elf

Hi all, I've been trying to get my Fat PS2 setup with a 2TB HDD and a bunch of games I have. I've tried a bunch of youtube videos and am now using this guide israpps.github.io/FreeMcBoot-Installer/test/FHDB-TUTO. html . I can get all the way through the flow until the Installing FreeHdBoot step. Once I open FMCBinstaller.ELF, my PS2 just goes to a black screen. I have tried multiple versions of the .elf file and keep getting the same thing. I have also tried 2 different hard drives, one is 2tb, one is an old 60gb that came from a PS3, both black screen at the same exact step in the process. Anyone have any thoughts on what the issue could be?

did you end up fixing this? im gonna rip my hair out if i try again and get a black screen lol

Does the PS2 have a modchip? If yes, did you trie to disable it first before installing FHDB?
