It hasn't been long since I last asked myself this question. I never even noticed how cheap the 60GB 360s are going for until a week ago. There are some good offers floating around Gamestation, Argos and Currys, which I'm seriously considering.

Xbox 360 60gb Console
Wireless Controller & Headset supplied
Xbox Live Silver Membership
007 Quantum of Solace Xbox360
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Xbox360
Sega Superstar Tennis Xbox360
Project Gotham Racing 4 Xbox360

All for £199 with free shipping.

There is an Argos deal similar, but without 007 and Banjo, and instead replaced with a Sonic game I think. IIRC it's a little cheaper too.

Gamestation have loads of mix and match deals going at the moment, and I could get an Elite for like £220 or something. Not sure if I really need that though.

What do you guys think? Should I just say 'screw it' and but one now, or perhaps look into a PS3? The downside of that is I wouldn't be able to hack it if I felt like it. I doubt prices wouldn't get THAT much cheaper in January either, and if anything will just go out of stock then shoot straight back up in price.

EDIT: If I do buy a 360, I'll probably pick up stuff like VF5 pre-owned, Naruto, Burst Limit and probably some type of new racing game.

I say go for it. The 360 is a fantastic console. But it is your money afterall and really I'm no 360 fanboy but the ps3 is....err...not brilliant. It is up to you.

oh and btw if you want to play online you'll need to get a xbox gold membership

that's a pretty good deal, but check the reviews, you can get a 60gb pro pretty cheap on its own, then pick up the games you want. the 2nd hand market for games on ebay is v.good, I got plenty of games no more than a year old for between 3 and 10 quid.

the 360 is a great console, some excellent games. personally I'm waiting for the ps3 to go for under £200 and then I'll get one. I really want Littlebigplanet, but there's plenty to play on 360 in the meantime.

Where exactly would I look to get one on its own? When I had my Wii, I did exactly that, just bought all my games from Ebay and saved myself loads of cash.

Not sure how much of a price difference I'd get with a Pro on its own though, considering Arcades are still like £150 or something.

EDIT: http://www.gamestation.co.uk/Xbox360/Hardw...th-Mirrors-Edge

Cheapest I could see. Maybe I just suck at browsing.

don't forget to get one you can mod.

If I buy a brand new 360, it'll probably have one of the unhackable drives in it. I'd probably have to buy another DVD drive off of Ebay or something, unless I actually buy an older console from the 'bay.

Yes, I'm double posting, but it's been like 6 hours and no activity in this forum.

How much could a 20gig HD hold? Basically, when will the lack of storage begin to become a problem? 10/15/20 games in? etc.

Asking this because on Ebay they are selling 'brand new 20gig Pro' consoles for like £140 and under. That means I'd have like, £120 to spend on games, or I could possibly look into modding it.

Overly hopeful much? It'll kick in around 3 games. As in, you'll likely never get more than 3 on it.

I probably should've made myself more clearer.

I mean save games. Not actually putting the games on the HD using the NXE thing.

Ah, not at all most likely. Space eaters are DLC for games like rock band and HDD game installs.

I see. Guess 20GB would be fine then if I did end up with one. I need to try get to the city this weekend to get a good deal, or order online but then I'd have to wait until Monday to put money in the bank.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
