The pm arrived just after I hit the Add Reply button. I guess I was a little to unpatient.

I have no idea right now why it doesn't work on your site. I assume you see the banner annimation if you select a game? Or doesn't that show up either?
Sorry...No banner animation in the disc channel. And in joyflow, I can distinguish the discex games from the wbfs ones because the former display that soundclip and the latter don't.

Also...I noticed that if I start my wii as priiloader->postloader -> system menu (quit postloader), it black screens. If I start priiloader -> system menu, it works. Kinda strange.

EDIT: yes...there's definately some influence. I removed priiloader for a test and rebuilt the cache from within the system menu...now everything but super mario galaxy 2 seems to run (tested Turtles and mario strikers, rock band 3 and new super mario bros wii: the next levels as discex...no problems whatsoever).

@ The crew: beta5 available

Nice!

Here's the cdilog and diconfig.bin that obcd wanted to look at.

EDIT: with the new beta 5 the only games I have found so far that loads like a GC game is Mario Kart Wii and Metroid Prime Trilogy. I will keep investigating and see if other games do this.

Okay...with version 4 (and now version 5), I finally manage to start games to run on a consistent base. I'll keep working without priiloader or joyflow for the moment, but this obviously is something for the not-too-distant future (I want to avoid too many factors that may cause errors).

Anyway...my system menu now displays and runs pretty much all games I throw at it.

However, stopping the games is another issue. discex games return to the system menu fine. But if I quit a wbfs game, it loops that 'window glance' animation you get when restarting your wii with the home button. Restarting the wii won't boot the menu anymore until I remove the diconfig.bin file.

Will post the cdilog.txt file later (forgot to clear it when started using beta 5).

EDIT: here we are:

(this is after two simple tests...Super Mario Galaxy 1 and wii play: motion work fine, but had that closing problem I mentioned...had to remove diconfig.bin)

Code:
#it doesn't create this file automatically
#so we simply put it here
#and have cdi append debugging stuff to it

EDIT2: a few other findings (mostly for the other testers):
-.wbfs games with an update partition are skipped. Check the games with wii backup manager to see which partition(s) a game has (should only be 'G').
-Super Mario Galaxy 2 (PAL) blackscreens in discex but works in .wbfs format now.
-the presence of those .txt files in the same subfolder as the games makes no difference.

To add to this, I think that the cDi won't detect games if the folder containing them has a name larger than 35 characters.

On a separate topic, I noticed that Smash Bros isn't detected, even though I deleted the game partition. Is this because SSBB has many partitions for the Masterpiece games?

Here's an updated list of games tested (all .wbfs files from disc channel):

Bully - works
Cate West: The Vanishing Files - works
Call of Duty 3 - works
Call of Duty Black Ops doesn't work
cry.gif

Donkey Kong Country Returns - works
Goldeneye 007 - works
House of the Dead Overkill - works
Madworld - works
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess - works
New Super Mario Bros. Wii - works
Red Steel - no audio on cutscenes, otherwise works fine
Red Steel 2 - works
Super Mario Galaxy - works
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - works
Wii Sports - works
Wii Sports Resort - works

the way things are now, the folder name is limited to 32 characters. This is a limitation that exists for fst extracted games as well.
It is possible to change this limitation, but that will change the diconfig.bin file as well.
Since uneek ES and joyflow use that file, they will need a modification as well to get things running again. At this moment, simply renaming the folder to something shorter solves the issue, so it has no high priority on my todo list, and I think Overjoy feels the same about it.

I hope you deleted the update partition and not the game partition...?

current versions of cdi indeed skip games with an update partition. Support for those is on our todo list.

Yes, I renamed all my folders to the title ID of each game so that all my games are detected. I agree that the 32 character limit is a low priority/non-issue.

LOL yes I meant the update partition for SSBB. Thankfully I still have the game partition and the partitions with the masterpiece games.

Oke guys.. i think now that the module is kinda running stable it's time to work on the other support things.

My opinion is that the next thing todo is to work on the game support. As the most of you noticed some games load the GC banner
into the discchannel. This only means that the game is unsupported yet. I think we should create a list of al those problem games.

The second thing in line is to add support for longer folder names

And the last thing is to add support for files with the update partition in it.

OverjoY

Edit:
nintendiw!!: I'll send you a link for v3 beta5

I'm afraid I still can't quit a wbfs game without the wii locking up to the point of having to delete diconfig.bin to be able to restart my wii (see previous post).

Other than that (and assuming nintendiw!!'s problem is fixed in v5), I agree with you.

So far, I have found three games that load as GC:

Metroid Prime Trilogy
Mario Kart Wii
Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands

Other games that didn't work:
Metroid Other M
CoD Black Ops

Lastly, as I mentioned earlier, Smash Bros. doesn't show up in my list, even though the update partition is deleted and the folder length is OK.

If games show up as GC games in the wii menu it means the system menu couldn't load the banner info from the disc (or the GC magicbyes were found of course).

I've been following this thread for awhile and I find it odd that some games seem to work while others don't, as all just use the same few functions DVDLowUnencryptedRead,DVDOpenPartition and DVDLowRead.

I don't know anything about the wbfs format though ...

You're absolutely right Sangor about that those games can't load the banner info. I can fix this easely by adding the right calculation of the offsets for the files in the fst. For this I only need to know what games aren't supported yet and some values from the wbfs file. I think that about 90% of the games are supported now.

If all calculations are done the module will support the same games in wbfs format that are now supported in the fst extracted format.

As i said it's not a problem for me to add this, but because I don't own any of those games myself I need help from others for finding me those values. Also I don't know how many calculation are missing still, but adding a calculation for one game should fix the issue for all games that share the same structure

@markehmus and xfcrowman: It would probably help if we mentioned game regions and if the game is discex or WBFS before concluding that it must be the dump.

For me, the only issue games thus far are the following:
-Super Mario Galaxy 2 PAL, DiscEx (SB4E01) displays banner, but starting the game black screens after the 'please use the wiimote cord' message (note: the WBFS version of the same game plays fine)
-Super Paper Mario NTSC, WBFS (R8PE01) 'cannot find disc' message in the channel
-Samurai Warriors 3 PAL, WBFS (S59P01) shows gamecube channel

I still have lots of other games to check, but I'd rather wait until my earlier mentioned problem clears up...tonight I'll try it with a completely fresh modmii-generated nand, as I seem to be the only one who can't return to the wii menu after running wbfs games.

Okay...after defragmenting the drive (which didn't made a difference), I tried with a fresh modmii nand. About as bare as the thing gets.

The .wbfs games looping instead of returning to the main menu is fixed. This is good to know. I'm still going to check if I can pinpoint more closely why it looped, but at least it's good to know that this was something on my nand and not in the DI module.

Indeed good to hear.
If you use the other nand (with all the channels) and the normal uneek di, does that work normally if you return to the system menu?
Can you return from a fst extracted game to the menu with that nand? (with cdi)
Are you sure you don't have a priiloader setting to let it return to something not being the systemmenu?

Mario Kart Wii works here just fine in v5,
xfcrowman , might want to check your dump

OK - re-dumped the game and I still have the same problem with Mario Kart loading as a GC game.
However, I also learned something new while doing this.

If I only delete the update partition of games like Mario Kart, Wii Fit, and Wii Fit Plus, the games do not show up in the list because they have 2 partitions (one for the game and another for installing the channels). Therefore, the cDI doesn't detect games unless they have only 1 partition (the game partition).

At this point, I have tested about 100 games for the GC banner issue, and here are the games I have found:

Mario Kart Wii (not sure why I'm having this problem but others aren't)
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands
Sakura Wars

Note: all games tested are NTSC-U .wbfs files

I have more games to add to my compatibility list, and I will do so later tonight.
