You need to run the 4.05 exploit to get the debug menu for installing pkgs, once you have that, you can install official update PKGs from Orbismodding.com for your legit games. My PS4 is not activated, no PSN account tied, and updated Bloodborne without issues.

Try as I might I just can't seem to install the Bloodborne 1.09 package (note: I have already installed the 1.00 version from my purchased original disc).

I have a 16 GB USB stick formatted as ExFat

Copied onto the root of that are the following files:

UP9000-CUSA00900_00-BLOODBORNE000000-A0109-V0100_0.pkg
UP9000-CUSA00900_00-BLOODBORNE000000-A0109-V0100_1.pkg
UP9000-CUSA00900_00-BLOODBORNE000000-A0109-V0100_2.pkg
UP9000-CUSA00900_00-BLOODBORNE000000-A0109-V0100-DP.pkg

I plug the USB stick into the left (or right!) USB port.

When I go into Debug Settings I select:

Game > Package Installer > Install All

I press X after each of the following errors:

An error has occurred
(CE-35659-8)

An error has occurred
(CE-35706-0)

An error has occurred
(CE-35706-0)

An error has occurred
(CE-36246-1)

Naturally I still get those errors if only selecting one package at a time.

where am I going wrong?

EDIT: Got it working! I was using the wrong update files. On checking my disc I saw that the ID on the disc was CUSA-03173

Taking from that and slightly adjusting it to CUSA03173_00 and entering that on one of the package databases gave me this:

https://ps4.octolus.net/view/CUSA03173_00/NP

Just one file to download so I grabbed it, put it on the USB stick and installed it without a problem. The information for the game now states that it's 1.09

This is one of the EU versions.

However, the package update is so small at 190.7 MB that I wonder if it's all there! The game fires up though so it must be, although the other EU package files for other Bloodborne title IDs are a lot larger. Any ideas why?

Thanks. I'm now a bit puzzled why downloading and installing a 167MB file seems to have worked. I guess it makes sense as looking at the version history:

http://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Patch+Notes

there are no graphics changes, just bug fixes and the like.

Am I perhaps missing something?

9GB is a cumulative update, so it's all the updates combined.. unless you already have 1.08 then, the 198mb update is sufficient... this is my speculation (don't quote me on this lol)

Sounds logical but it still seems like a huge update for relatively minor fixes. I'll try one of the larger EU packages and see what happens.

Just a thought, but here's me downloading these PKG files to update my purchased copy of Bloodborne and I'm wondering - is it legal to download these files?

Sites distributing them seem to have been online for a long time so I'm guessing that the average PS4 user can't do anything with them and Sony doesn't care; only exploited PS4's can use the files to update legally installed software - is that right?

I have so many thoughts about this. The short answer is it's illegal to do anything that the powers that be don't want you to. Alot of people don't understand law. I could talk for hours about it. But the constitution has been suspended in usa for several decades. Though no one realizes it. If you anger the right people you can be imprisoned for nearly anything. Some will argue the fine lines of certain copyright laws etc but the truth is anyone can be sued apprehended and convicted at anytime given the right factors.

I am sure positive even that sony (unlike nintendo) does care. Though oddly they continue to let me online with my hacked pstv and vita which I find quite odd....

You make some good points. I am though still surprised that the PKG files are so easy to find on "normal" web sites (as opposed to torrents). I guess it's because they generally won't work without a license key (?).
