I'm not really sure of the point you're trying to make...
Obviously we don't need to rely on MS for new batteries, that's entirely the point!
AA batteries have been in use for more than 50 years, and will continue to be used for a while longer.
Using rechargeable AA batteries is great, after they eventually go bad (like all rechargeable batteries do) - we can buy more.
Can the DS4 battery last longer than 2 AAs in the Xbox One controller? I'm not sure, but the AAs last long enough.
Battery technology is improving, the rechargables 15 years ago were terrible compared to stuff like 'eneloop' makes now.
Even eneloop have improved and released new versions of their batteries over the years.
Sadly, my PSP battery though is getting older and older with not good quality replacement. I saw some mod where a guy was using nokia batteries in the PSP, they are much more widespread than PSP. Things like that are cool.
It's good to have 'standards', like everything using usb c, or hdmi, stuff like that.
When companies use their own battery, or solder it in, it makes difficult to use in the long term.
Of course, in an ideal world, a rechargeable battery that never goes bad would be best. I'm not saying that I don't want rechargeable things (like I said, I use rechargeable AA batteries) - but until batteries are perfected, or until we can be sure that high quality replacements will be available even 20 years in the future, I'd rather stick with common standards like AA.
I'd rather my phone bea few mm thicker and have some standardized replaceable battery, than whatever samsung thing it has now.
Thinking about it, after 3-4 years, my electric toothbrush certainly doesn't last as long as it used to.
100% non user replaceable. Apart from that, it works great. It would be nice if I didn't have to spend $xx on a new one every few years, but let's be real... the company wants us to
