Ship of Harkinian Direct (OoT PC port) April 27th - Roundup

A new Direct stream has been announced for the popular PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Ship of Harkinian (also known as SoH), set to air on April 27th, 2023 at 3pm PT / 6pm ET. No current information has been given as to what to expect from the live stream, but people keeping a keen eye on the development of the Ship, and those within the Twitter and Discord social circles, might already have an idea of what could be featured in the Direct.

SoH Direct's video description said:
Tune in for roughly 14 minutes of news, updates, and comedy sketches from the Ship of Harkinian.
Video credits:
- Producer / Writer: Kenix
- Writer: Briaguya
- Executive Producer: rainbow_fash
- Editor: Argorath
- Gwonam / The King: MicTheMicrophone
- Link: Amphibibro
- Zelda: AceHeart
- Morshu: Count Dooku

We'll cover the event live as it airs, going through the new features that the PC port will benefit from.
What would you like to see added in the PC port's new update?

...and the direct begins!
  • We open up with some scenes of what seems to be machinery moving to begin the countdown.
  • It starts with a fully 3D modeled skit based on the CDi games, followed by an intro opening theme akin to sitcoms of the 90s.

  • And we begin with the features!
  • New ice trap visuals
  • Entrance randomizer
  • A lot of new cosmetic options
  • A quest file select, allowing the player to select between normal OoT, Master Quest or Randomizer Quest when starting a new file.
  • Master Quest Randomizer
  • Debug camera
  • Check tracker
  • Gameplay stats

  • Pet dog
  • Audio editor
  • Exit market at night
  • Enemy randomizer
  • Lake Hylia water control switch

  • HD textures and custom model support!
  • Ivan the Fairy, a new feature of what seems to be support for player 2 being able to control the fairy alongside some abilities for helping or annoying the main player

Is there still any work being done on making it possible to extract the assets from one's own Zelda 64 dump, instead of relying on the mysterious debug ROM? Or does no one care about that anymore..?

Can someone explain the reference please ? I'm curious x)
I believe it is a reference to the Ship of Theseus – the idea that something can remain the same even if you replace all of its parts one-by-one.

Forget about the name, just let it be.

The best thing is this:
"HD textures and custom model support!"
Now, if someone can convert all texture from the 3DS and make them Hi-res I have everything I need.
Big love to this project!!

Honestly I'm pretty happy that proper texture and model support has arrived, I've been waiting over a year for this lmao.
Can't wait to see what glorious things and monstrosities the community creates. Big props to the Harbour Masters 64 team.

Y'all really think Nintendo has a trademark on the word "direct"? The whole "Nintendo will come after these people" discussion is not funny, not true, and not contributing to the topic at all.

The only thing Nintendo has a trademark for the word "direct" is when they send DMCA Directs :tpi:

I find being public and vocal of this port as a form of gambling! Super Mario Bros. for the C64 already got the Nintendo Guillotine because the creators of the port were too public and vocal with it! I think the Ship of Harkinian should get this into the deep web and out of public view asap, because, who knows... they could be next in line for the Nintendo Guillotine! Once that hideous thing drops down, ball-game's over!

While I agree, Nintendo has dome things for very ridiculous reasons, nothing illegal is happening.
They aren't distributing any code written by Nintendo, or any Nintendo IP assets, so technically they're not able to legally charge these people with anything.
It's one of the reasons I love these decompilation projects.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
