Revealed during today's Nintendo Direct Mini was a new trailer for the long-awaited Shin Megami Tensei V. Not only is the game still in development, but it's not too far from an actual release. In a world without its Creator, which path shall you choose? You'll be able to decide that when the game launches next year in 2021, with a simultaneous release in North America, Europe, and Japan.

To anyone who hasn't played an SMT game but thinks this looks interesting:
Play SMT IV on 3DS. It's always on sale and is a great introduction to SMT (especially if you've played Persona). Deep Strange Journey is also on 3DS and it's a lovely game but it's a bit clunkier than IV so it isn't a great first entry to the series.

I'm so ready for this. I hope there's a special edition too.
Also, I'm glad that they're releasing the SMT III remaster on PS4 and PS5 too. I'd rather play games on there, if given the chance. Since V is an exclusive it is what it is and I'll enjoy it anyway but mannnnn I'm so happy. This made my whole week, man.

Looking forward to this but wish they'd show some gameplay as these cutscenes just don't do but for me.
I need to see some mechanics.
Hoping they mix up the formula but keep it just as complex.
Gotta have them moon phases.

Also anyone else want to see an SMT edition switch? Like the animal crossing ones with engravings and creepy glowing joycons maybe.

I really hope that 2D sprite/artwork is used generously. The battle images and sprites in SMT IV are gorgeous (yes, even the ones from guest artists that seemed slightly out of place, lol) and while 3D models are more "modern," you just gotta love the care and attention that goes into quality 2D art.
