Because this isn't about me looking for a good place for MY homebrew. This is about trying to bring a good standard namespace for ALL THE HOMEBREW.
Just wondering, does that include other platforms like the wii u? (Curious about the 3DS folder)

I don't have a Wii U, and I don't deal in Wii U stuff, however: One of the reasons why I was asked to change it from simply /homebrew/ to /homebrew/3ds/ was because people share SD cards among their Nintendo devices (apparently?..), and so having a /homebrew/ folder would make zero sense when viewed on a Wii/Wii U.

So the current paths allow Wii U to gather things up in their own folder without cluttering the SD root with another folder, which is pretty great since it's like many birds with one stone.

EDIT: To make it clear, I wasn't simply asked to change the path, it was more other devs and I had a talk about this and decided on /homebrew/3ds/ where as /homebrew/ was my initial idea without discussing anyone about it.

Yep, that's pretty much what I thought. Thanks.

The WiiU & Wii can share the same sd card (with the virtual wii, they pretty much have to). The wii stuff is in the root and the wiiu stuff is under SD:/wiiu. I can understand why they'd want that cleaned up too.

I'll be posting a thread explaining why and how and what and such in a bit, so people can ask questions and get informed on as to why this change needs to happen.

This is some really cool stuff even if I personally will not be finding use for this as a N3DS owner with a 64gig microSD. Someone with original 3DS line of console and having say; several smaller cards instead of one huge one would love this long time. I actually have a friend with that situation and that is partly my own fault too.

You could use just the /3ds folder on the sd root
it's where all the homebrew folders go and would be 1 less folder in the SD Card, since it only holds the boot.bin from SaltFW

Nice! Now that it's updated, I'm asking this in this thread too: What's the difference between this and Aurora's A9LH fork's latest commit with a built in mini CFW?
Different paths, and better handling of screeninit, as well as a nice altstage2 that makes sure you can boot even if you somehow mess up stage2
