“I open sourced it so other BF2 modders can use it. But it could also be extended and built upon to support other games that were affected by the GameSpy shutdown,” said Ryde

I'm not sure what "it" is exactly, but if "it" will help with this project, I think it'd be something to look into.

It looks like they've only implemented a minimum subset necessary to run BF2. (Much like how altwfc is a subset to support Nintendo.) I don't think it's directly useful to us.

The latest fork of Openspy is more likely to be of help.

I can easily add new domain names in USBLoaderGX internal domain patcher too.
If there is a user's demand, I can also allow the user to manually add its own domain in the loader and pick from a list when launching the game. it prevent physically patching the ISO and keeping multiple different ISO of the same game to play on different servers.

Currently, USBGX has a feature to patch only noSSL (https->http), and one to patch both noSSL and the domain (nintendowifi.net -> wiimmfi.de)
As long as the domain is not bigger than nintendowifi.net, it can be added to the loader's automatic patching.

the loader can only patch main.dol, I don't apply the patch on the encounter algorithm in mkwii.

Edit:
If you want, and if altwfc servers has a fixed domain name or IP, I can add it to USBLoaderGX domain patcher, users won't have to edit the DNS to use it.
Server IP is the same as DNS IP? (75.127.5.215)
Was this ever implemented? setting up usb loader gx so we won't have to edit the DNS?

With wiimmfi.de yes (it's replacing both https to http, and the URL)
with Altwfc, no (it's replacing only https to http). I tried to replace the URL with known IP and addresses but it never worked. I'll have to go to IRC to ask more information to replace the URL and prevent DNS edition.

Ok so I was wondering but how can I setup my own nintendo wifi server. I have gotten public ones working but I still want to setup one in case it ever goes offline. Thanks!:)

Would also like to know this.
As the ping to the server available isn't the greatest from here;P

I don't know about the details of this talk, but wit can patch https and the URL, or only one of them. And the newest Wiimmfi-Patchers has also scripts called "patch-dwc" for the altwfc server. And as I know, the USB loader don't patch the staticr.rel files, but my tools do it.

yeah, USBLoaderGX is not patching the .rel before launch because it's not loaded from memory but from the Disc.
the main.dol is loaded in memory so it can be pre-patched by the loader.
If there were a way to patch files on the fly or load from external on the fly (like riivolution), I could add it.

The question above was if it's still required to edit DNS in wii settings when using altwfc or if the loader was replacing the URL like it's done for wiimfii.de URL.
For altwfc servers, It's currently not replacing the URL, only the protocol (because I don't know the address.tld to use to replace nintendowifi.net, I have only the IP of the DNS proxy).
So, editing the DNS setting for altwfc is still required.

It would/could be possible, if the servers support a base domain, that is not longer than 16 chars. The problem is the HTTP server, because the domain is used as switch to select the correct virtual server.

Just curious to ask Wiimm (if you don't mind me asking this), why can't i access your server? As i keep getting a 23915 error.

Is it to do with the fact that i'm using Dolphin Emulator and i should really be using an actual Wii console?

Also... from what I've read or heard around the internet (or i should say from the official IRC), the altwfc servers are permanently down at the moment (goodness knows when they'll ever be back up and running again). As i keep getting a constant loop like it's trying to connect to the server and then after a while, it freezes. :/

After failing to get online with Dolphin Emulator, i decided to go out and buy another Wii console...

It was one of the best investments, that I've ever made!!! :)

Thank You Wiimm (it's just a shame... that more people that haven't softmodded their consoles, don't even know about this and they're missing out).

Too bad I would have to delete my MKW save in order to use this awesome solution. Have you guys got some progress regarding the use of old save files?

Download pidtool.

It will extract and upload any online data that you may have on your console to the Wiimmfi Server only.

Hmmm, but how about the rest of my save file? Is there a way to only delete my online data and leave achievements intact? (I'm not very used to the Wii).

I'm trying to get the server to run from my dolphin emulator, and I noticed that I don't know how to change the DNS config in my dolphin.
Anyone knows how to do it?

Eventually, I thought I might be able to try and get my dolphin to communicate with my desmume via wifi. Anyone managed to do something like that?

Thanks in advance.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
