Pokemon Rising Sun and Waning Moon

Works for both Pokemon Moon and Sun!

NOTICE:

It has come to my attention that my old download links and instructions were within the gbatemp rules. I am not linking any actual roms, or full romfs files. I am only linking the individual edited files required to play Rising Sun & Waning Moon. If this is threatened to be taken down once more, I ask that mods first look and tell me why the Nova Sun/Umbra Moon mods do the same and have remained up.

Please ask if you want to upload this elsewhere, or at least give credit back to this post or my twitter.
Lets start off with some context. Currently, pk3DS allows us to edit the trainers and move sets of pokemon within Pokemon Sun and Moon. I decided to go ahead and create a challenge mode of sorts, similar to that of Pokemon Blaze Black/Volt White. Currently editing wild encounters!

Changes:
  • Trial Captains and Kahunas now all have teams of 6 Pokemon.
  • Level curve greatly changed. Team should be in high 70s/low 80s by the end of the elite 4.
  • Trainers have Pokemon not usually seen in Alola.
  • Movesets of weaker Pokemon is finished.
  • Youngster Joey has a top percent Rattata.
  • Wild encounters up until the post game are finished! Have fun everyone!
  • Custom music for post game returning trainers.
  • Almost every Pokemon has access to their hidden ability.

A NOTE ABOUT INSTRUCTIONS:
THE EASIEST METHOD IS GETTING A CFW, DO IT WHILE YOU CAN.
Instructions: (CFW Required for this method. See other method below if you don't have a CFW) I also still need to make the method easier for Pokemon Sun users, sorry!

THINGS YOU NEED:
- Latest nightly build of luma. (Get this through the .cia updater)
- The hack's GARC files (the stuff that actually overwrites the original assets) Get it from the Google Drive link

New and Updated Instructions! About time!

Luma Game Patcher Method:
    • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
    • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder titled romfs within luma/titles/(titleID)
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • Make sure "Enable Game Patcher" is checked in luma3ds setup.
  • Start Sun/Moon
Thats it! Easiest way to tell if its working is by starting a new game or checking your Trainer Passport.

FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Layeredfs: (These instructions only apply if you use the Layeredfs files)

The LayeredFS feature allows you to replace RomFS files with files on the SD card for most games. To use it:
  • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
  • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder called romfs in the game's folder.
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • For example, to use LayeredFS with Pokémon™ Sun, make a folder named romfs , put your replacement files in it, then put romfs in 0004000000164800.
FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Todo:
  • Re balance according to feedback.
  • Re balance Pokemon move sets and stats once tools are available.
  • Add in last few Pokemon. (Some starters, legendaries, etc.)
  • Finish documentation on the various changes.

Credits:
  • Creators of the tools pk3DS, extract repack, etc.
  • Drayano, for being a cool guy that's better at hacking than I am
Sellout:
I'm a filthy sellout. Follow me on twitter to know when major updates for the romhack come out. https://twitter.com/KobeRobsahm

Individual files/the romfsdir folder have been uploaded. They are included in the Google Drive folder that the download link in the master post links to.

Hey guys, small preview of what the Post/End Game looks like.

You will be able to battle all of the Battle Tree exclusive trainers OUTSIDE of the Battle Tree during the post game. Wally here, however, fights you right before the Dragon trial to test your strength.

Nice, OP.
I tried to run it on the latest Luma nightly, but it freezes at the select language screen, so I wonder if I packed the romfs correctly.
I'm not sure what's the difference between the two zips: one is compressed and the other one is uncompressed but, if you need to uncompress the bin file, why upload it compressed? Can I just use WaningMoon.bin as a romfs bin file?

Tempting, I'd play this granted I could skip all of the cut scenes in the game, otherwise I'm not sure, great work though!

Man, editing NPCs/Overworld Data is really the only thing that I want to learn to do.

Also, if you could include the patched files themselves it would be fine, I dumped my copy of Moon, edited some stuff around, made a layeredfs plugin for Sun, and ran all the Moon changes in Sun and it worked just fine for me.

I did indeed upload the separate files for people, although by patched files I'm unsure if you mean the changed files or an actual patch made with pk3DS. Because when I try to patch with pk3DS I get this error here https://i.gyazo.com/2453a0cb328e431f191e8df8dd656497.png

Also glad to hear you got it working on Pokemon Sun. Any chance you could list the steps for it to work on sun so I could add it to the Instructions?

Make sure you entered the correct 8 digits for the romfs. I just tested the version I uploaded and it should be working just fine. I uploaded the uncompressed files since some people are having issues with the .bin file. Also, WaningMoon.bin still needs to be repacked into the romfs.

I've added the Pokemon Sun and Moon compatible pk3DS to the google drive folder. Everything can still be found here:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0By0T413LWAPQaXpEZWpiS3hldlU?usp=sharing

I meant just sharing the GARC files themselves, it'd be much easier than having to reupload the romfs every time you make a change, plus just sharing the GARC files would mean anybody could merge it with their Sun/Moon romfs and any other hacks they might be running.

Anyways, here's a few of the important GARCs, this should cover what you want/need to share:

a/0/9/1 for World Data
a/0/7/7 for Zone Data
a/0/3/2 for Misc Game Text
a/0/4/2 for Story related text

a/1/0/4 for Trainer Class
a/1/0/5 for Trainer Data
a/1/0/6 for Trainer Pokémon

Basically, just go through the romfs folder of where you were making the changes, copy/paste these specific files somewhere else and just share that, it'd be much easier.

As for Sun, I'm using NTR CFW with a layeredfs plugin I made, so I don't really think my instructions would particularly help.

Thanks for this info. I'll go ahead and upload the GARC files when I get a chance. Which may not be for another 6 or so hours sadly.

I'm not really sure which digits you mean.
My rebuilt romfs is in sd:\luma\titles\0004000000175e00\romfs (no extension). I couldn't find any "Extract Repack" on google, so I downloaded PackHack 5.3 by Asia81, opened it, opened the RomFS Builder, pointed it at the extracted Waning Moon folder (not the bin zip but the extracted folders zip), and presto. Could you instead provide a hint on where to get Extract Repack? Or better yet, a patch file to patch the CIA? Thanks.

In my expierence you have to name the romfs 00175e00. Although it might be different using Luma 3DS.

On a side note, if you have a dumped copy of Pokemon Sun and Moon, the individual GARC files have been added to the Google Drive. https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0By0T413LWAPQaXpEZWpiS3hldlU

I am now going to school, so I will be unable to upload any changes until later today, but will answer questions on my phone.

Ah. I just realized I messed up on the GARC files. Well I'll just have to fix them when I get home.

Will be uploading the GARC files as soon as I get home, but for now.

This weekend I plan on revamping as many movesets of pokemon as I can that are native to Alola. Look forward to it!

Wait, it works through HANS? Whenever I try to simply run Moon through HANS (N3DS, 11.2 OFW, oothax) it just crashes on invalid icache or something like that. Was there a new, "Sun/Moon compatible" version released?

My Hans just worked for it. I remember getting some XML file list for Hans a little while back though for newer games.

Weird then, I have all the MMAP files (downloaded just 2 days ago), newest HANS (redownloaded entire Homebrew Starter Kit to be sure) and yet it just gives me that invalidated icache. Are you on CFW or 'vanilla' firmware?
