Just open the application and in a blink you will have your 300 coins and you will be back in the Home Menu.

ULTRA compressed version of "3DSx Play Coin Setter" from MrCheeze. It simply gives you the 300 coins and done.
The extdata modification code used on this application it's from yellows8's "3ds_homemenu_extdatatool".

I don't believe there's any homebrew for that, since it's such a niche thing.

It's not that simple, as unlike coins there isn't a place that says "steps taken today"

For every hour, the number of steps is recorded, and the total displayed in Home and some games is calculated from the individual hour values

It is possible to edit the step count (using system functions instead of direct save editing, see Nintendo's PedometerChanger) but it would screw up your actual step count (yes, I care), you would need to pick an hour to edit, etc

Not impossible to make but not trivial!

Well steps turn into coins, so why else would you need that?
