probably the writing, if konami keeps the series going without kojima behind it writing the story, it'll be too different to them idk
think halo after bungie left and 343 took over

just speculation, i'm not really that into metal gear, and haven't played any of the games outside of MGRR

I think it's got a lot to do with Kojima's general tendency to insert tons of goofy elements in his games before going ahead and cramping every single tidbit he knows about the world's politics/economy/war history together and making it "work"...
