I was wondering, why my game data was missing and if I can get it back?

What I did.

installed a few games on my external HDD
played a few games, and saved data.
resumed and played the games many times.

Then one day the HDD died on me. So I got a new one and installed my games back on. Now all game data is missing.

Oh wait...
"Wii U saves the savefile in the same place as the game iirc, so if your hdd goes so does your saves."
That stupid... Switch does not do that, I guess they change that for the switch, So game data is history huh.

If you want your saves you have to recover them from the HDD. What was the problem with the HDD? Maybe something can be recovered

Clicking could also be not enough power. How is it powered?
You could also try removing it from the case and using it on the PC via sata directly
