how about this?
someone do an system update then trace the ram & cpu, & also trace ip address to nintendo update servers of where the update is coming from.
make a signal that ask for previous version of 3DS firmware instead & copy to sd card instead of system.
customize firmware, w
then use system update, customize signal to get update frmo sd card instead of nintendo update servers.

Never mind, it was just my network.
It didn't damage anything - but the only thing that happens is the game takes 5-20 min to suspend, but it started happening ever since I got it.

Oh and I didn't say it was a hack or anything. I just said it was probably *most likely* will not lead to an exploit. But one piece of information that is useful is that the 3DS still writes to the game and SD card before it turns off.

Step one: find the Nintendo update server and acquire firmware data.
Step two: spend forever unencrypting that data.
Step three: alter data.
Step three: Find exploit/ spoof nintendo's update servers through PC by having the 3ds access an alternate DNS server.
Step four: Trial-and-error process and continually brick every 3ds you try to hack until the firmware is accepted.
Step five: Capable of unsigned code, profit.

Approxamate time of completion: only god knows.
Approxamate costs of project: a lot of money, due to the high chance of continually bricking the consoles you get.
Uses: 98% piracy 2% home brew.
Amount of f*cks given: over 9000.

Worthwhile: yes.

Step one is redundant (you can already easily download 3DS system software from Nintendo's servers [addresses etc are known]) and there are two step threes. You're also missing a step between the second step three and step four, where you reencrypt and the SIGN the files. Requiring the private key, which no one will ever have unless someone from Nintendo were to leak it (which won't happen).

I think we can all agree that the 3ds will be hackd when super intelligent aliens comes to earth.
Just kidding but will it really be hacked before the next ds comes out? (after XL)

We know as much as you do, it really all depends on how much effort is put into it. All we know right now is there is a guy named "Neimod" who has been working on hacking the 3ds. However, if you want to know further information, go to his Flickr page and he will update what he is doing visually, http://www.flickr.com/photos/neimod/. In addition you can also follow his 3ds homebrew wiki page @ http://3dbrew.org/wiki/Main_Page. Correct me if I am wrong but I heard that the only way we can hack this thing is if he finds out how it ticks and hardmods the device so that he can find out which particular exploit will lead to profit (a hack).

for that we would need the ram simulation board like the one made by neimod.
Is someone in contact with neimod? Maybe we could ask him to to try that....if he already hasn't done it before.

He has a Youtube account. Don't mention GBAtemp.
Good luck with that.

havent read this in awhile but don't care, I'm posting this anyhow. any flaming won't bother as I'm just posting my finds.

Being as the 3ds practically destroys any of its files with encryption on it's SD, and there is no software to piece this information together(if there is,beg my pardon)
I've stumbled upon the dsiware files on my 3ds while pulling files trying to figure out where each location of data is stored, and this led to my theory.
assuming dsi information has been pretty well exploited over the last few years, the idea would be to recreate a dsiware game and encrypt it to break the 3ds code, as in, recreate the titled copied off the 3ds memory, destroy everything except the loading sequence( trial and error) and then copy it back on to the 3ds memory, and in this process the procedure needs to be sure that it doesn't break the readable state that the 3ds can see and pull the data from. somewhere in this concept feels like a generically good idea, but I don't have the software or knowledge of the dsi homebrew system or hacking capibilities. I figured this would be a better exploit than the standard dsi card that only runs in ds mode while this theory would copy itself into the system.

This idea could be shot down in flames, but I figured it needed to be out there, I only stumbled upon this when I realized that if we had a screen capture mode on the 3ds then in loz oot we could use the gyro L-target camera to take some amazing snapshots of the internal game, and so I decided to play around with it.

I use the site often, but this is my first post considering the general idea seemed more leading than just locking the system up by accident.

Neimod has spoken:
http://pastebin.com/SsVzL8x2

Basically he is saying that homebrew is possible through hardware exploits, but you need to equipment that you can't find in everyday homes meaning that there is a huge expense in trying to do this. As far as soft-modding it is concerned, there are real no expliots that break free from the operating system allowing the ability to have complete control of the 3DS.

Also give credit to Seratonin for finding the link.

This is bad news. :( Definitely don't want to do a hardware mod. But it does sound like he knows more than he's telling. Like he knows what type of mod would need to be done. Who knows, it could get modded sooner than later. Hopefully it won't lock us out of online capability. That would be a dealbreaker. Nice find seratonin!
