Piano

I used to get piano lessons till I started A Levels and stopped since I had to concentrate on my studies, I stopped after passing Grade 6.
Tbh I didn't enjoy the lessons at all, I hated having to practise so much and just found the whole ordeal boring. I remember my mum saying "I know you hate it now, but when your older you'll be thankful I made to take lessons" I just thought it was just her being asian and forcing me to play since all asians must play either the piano or violin.

Buut now... I think she was right. I haven't played in over 2 years and watching people play made me want to get playing again. And although I've played and passed Grade 6 now I can hardly sight read at all which is kinda embarrassing, not being able to after all those lessons. I also had nothing memorized so it was embarrassing again when asked to play something by people...

So during the time I have left of the Summer holidays before Uni starts (just over a month), I've decided to take lessons and learn to play a piece as perfectly as I can off by heart.

I had to repress the geek in me and didn't choose a Gaming piece, instead I chose "River Flows In You" by Yiruma (???).

Yeah, that's what i thought. I thought my mother just made me play piano because if you didn't, you wouldn't qualify as a real asian.

I passed my grade 9 last June. Such a relief.

I always thought i'd quit after grade 9, but now, i think i actually like it, and i might even finish grade 10 and ARCT =D

What! I thought Grade 8 was the highest, and then the Diploma?

Hmm... I think you're mistaken, as most of my friends have already done their ARCT.. What is this 'diploma', though?

Piano is kinda meh, but someday I'll learn it.

I already learned how to play guitar, so the next instruments I wanna learn to play are the: banjo, violin and harmonica

I had the asian parent thing too. But I did end of finishing, and going through ARCT levels now...but university is taking up most of my time, so I'm going super slow.

Piano is good though, it's extra money coming in when you become a part time teacher, it pays for some of my tuition....so I guess I do owe my mom something. Plus, after you finish and your parents quit hassling you, it then becomes fun when you realize you can compose whatever you want.

I wish my parents were Asian if it meant they would have forced me to learn Piano =/

ye and I was good at two pieces for a while but now, after 3~ months of not touching a piano,, I suck again!
