This is a good release! The "Macintosh Native" theme sucks, but not quite as hard as the other default. Very quick, pages render fine for the most part. Seems a tad quicker that Firefox, but still not as quick as Webkit nightlies. I'll probably keep it on the hard drive for a month and then delete it after realizing I won't use it again, but meh...it's there.

I guess your collective 5 seconds of use served you well. Opera has always had the lead in performance, with a minimalistic UI and fastest starting time.

God help you, you have to wait 5 extra seconds for your porn!?
Please, like start up time even matters.

As for the UI? Customising firefox and extensions can make it exactly the same if not better.

I've almost always had a "faster experience" in Opera and have been using the alphas/betas of 9.50 for months now. Of course I'll still be checking on this final release as there are a few noticable differences.

Personally though, I don't really care what people use. Firefox is faster for you? Good on ya, stick with it. But let's not turn this into a flame war. You don't like Opera and just want to complain? Fine! I support that. But stick with the proper, valid complaints and don't just sling mud at each other. Calling a UI "gay" is not a valid complaint. Calling it frustrating or poorly designed (See: NewsLeecher) is a valid complaint.

And if you don't like the style? That's your taste. I'm still undecided on the new style myself. One thing Opera DOES have on that front is a fantastic "Native Windows" option. May seem like a small thing but if you change your visual style in windows, it can do a pretty good job of "skinning" itself to match your VS.

Ultimately, use whatever works for you. Fuck, I still use lynx/elinks/links from time to time.

Edit: Just to be fair, Firefox does start fairly fast these days too. Both Opera and Firefox start in the exact same time on my computer.

Opera, both love it and hate it.

Love - Speed, still the browser that opens quickest for me.

Hate - The fact that Opera STILL doesn't display some pages correctly.

Firefox

Love - Extensions

Hate - Just about everything else. Slow. Very slow to start up. And btw I DON'T have alot of extensions, about 3-4 but the startup time is ridiculous sometimes >30 secs. And even installed fresh is significantly slower than Opera.

I would have ditched firefox long ago if it wasn't for Extensions, and the fact that its slightly better at displaying pages properly than Opera. Apart from that it's an overhyped piece of shit, I hope V3 makes major improvements.
This means your computer sucks.

And by the way, ever heard of defragmenting?

FireFox 3.0 is freaking FAST compared to FF2. Probably even more than Opera 9.5.

I used Opera before using Firefox... Firefox is so much better. Clean UI, renders pages well, and it's pretty fast. Mostly because I don't need things like Speed Dial... Never got to use them, but I just like FireFox 3's Most Visited list

Thats so true. My firefox so minimalistic it totally kicks Opera's arse.
Also, most addons work now with FF3. Google toolbar still makes it crash though which is a shame.
The speed at which it loads pages and the memory consumption have all been fixed and it starts up notably faster than FF2.
