I wasn't saying they'd detect your chip specifically, but that they could (in theory) detect where you are from and whether you are "supposed" to be playing in the correct region (ie NTSC-U Wii system playing on a PAL server). That's probably the extent they would go to in limiting online play.

Being a drive chip you should be able to go online without nintendo being able to detect it.  If they've decided to put some kind of protection on the online discs, so it stops you from going online.  We'll find out in a few days.  If you can get online with copied games, the cheats will be next and wii online gaming will got the same way as the DS online gaming.

Cheats aren't next – as long as it's impossible to run Wii homebrew, online will remain neutral.

Datel usually come out with something like the Action Replay. When that happens usually the homebrew starts. I just hope they've the sense to not include online games.

Metroid Prime Hunter.... didn't Datel release cheats for that? Also it does get frustating when you're playing again someone on tetris and they got the all long tetris piece cheat on

According to the official Nintendo mag in the U.K....on Mario strikers Multiplayer you can only play unknown people in your own region (PAL/NTSC)

If you have someones friend code you can then play some one in the USA or Japan if you are a European gamer and vice versa.

They say it's to cut down on lag and offer the player the best multiplayer experience.

Oh well, I will never get to take the US or Japanese on without messing around, asking for specific friend codes.

Let's get this out of the way right now: Yes. It's got its own Friend Code - and it's completely different to your Wii code. Oh, and if you want to add anyone to your Friend Roster, you'll need to manually input their Friend Code. That's 12 digits, for every friend. Do you hear that? It's the sound of the internet collectively weeping.

Does that mean that we won't be able to play with a backup of a the game?

That simply means the game has its own code separate from the Wii's code. Like Mario Kart, Animal crossing etc on the DS

It dont mean that each copy of the game will have a unique code like pc games have serials

A seperate friend code with the actual original game would be a good idea. You type it in or something to confirm your using an original. Only trouble with this is the second hand sales.

Yes. By the sounds of things it will have a friend code system similar to the way the DS has. So each different game will have a different friend code

Used games are looked at as a problem in the games industry, so don't plan on publishers making decisions based on helping the used market.
