Nintendo's Switch to finally hit Turkey at ~$500 USD

bundle_color_console.jpg

After withdrawing from the Turkish market due to the country's financial instability, Nintendo finally reenters the scene to sell its Switch system and assorted peripherals in the country. They're doing this through the company CD Media, an entertainment software/hardware distribution and localization company, serving peripheral manufacturers and publishers, based in Athens Greece. While consumers are generally enthusiastic at the prospect of Nintendo's presence returning to the market where it's been missed, the stated prices for the system, games, and peripherals will be relatively more expensive than they are elsewhere. From the Turkish games retailer OverGame's online storefront come the prices listed below:
  • Nintendo Switch Neon Red and Blue: 2,399 TL (USD $495 / £377)
  • Nintendo Switch Gray: $ 2,399 (USD $495 / £377)
  • Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Binary Gray 559 TL (USD $115 / £87)
  • Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Binary Neon Red and Blue 559 TL (USD $115 / £87)
  • Nintendo Switch Pro Controller 499 TL (USD $102 / £78)
  • Super Mario Odyssey: 379 TL (USD $78 / £60)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 329 TL (USD $68 / £52)

This means that the Switch system itself is to be 1.65 times as expensive, the joycon sets ~1.44 times, and the pro controller ~1.46 times. This price hike makes less sense when you take into account the countries general financial struggles, and is evidently much more expensive than was predicted.

In which regard exactly are those two things connected? Not that I would like that guy, but if you just want to discredit a person, please do it with more thought put into it... Or better just don't do it at all. This is gonna start a rather toxic discussion if someone gets triggered by that. And that's actually something we got enough of already.
That wasn't a political statement, just fact. It's a big contributing factor to what made the economy in Turkey so unstable to begin with. These people certainly deserve some form of distraction in their lives, but even at these prices it's probably way too much for the average citizen there to afford.

I almost never go to tourist regions. when I travel it is usually Airbnb a different place every 2 days exploring the whole country
I don't really like Turkey due to safety (and because they block my internet porn /s), I've feel a bit unsafe when I'm there (wouldn't do Airbnb myself) but I admit people in there usually can speak some English... sure the majority wouldn't have any problem playing games in English.

and how much are the games? near $80?
I assume the games should cost around that much, but you have to take into consideration that the translation is more work then for most languages since the dialogs better contain praise for the glorious dictator Gollum, otherwise people who buy this system get arrested for thoughtcrime ;)

Who the hell would even bother translating their games to Turkish. Bet they just get international versions and be done with it

Hope at least we had the option to have them in English here in Germany.
I am really getting tired of getting games such as Wolfenstein II, that not only censor out half of the visuals (that doesn't bother me too much), but in those games you end up forced to listen and play them in German only, what a nauseating thing.

He's not wrong. 500$ wouldn't be too much of an impact if he hadn't been doing some dangerous politics and driving down the value of Turkish Lira. Now, everyhing costs a metric shit ton, and there's no stopping for the devaluation of the currency in sight. Also, it's a lot of taxes. Shipping + VAT + Border tax + electronics tax. Mind you, you'd be paying almost this much if you had bought it from Amazon anyway.

Last 6 years of USD prices in Turkish Lira. Went from 1.8 to 4.9

EA and several other big companies started translating their games to Turkish, because a lot of people here own PS4, because it's cheap. Cheaper than a Switch, for sure.

I think Nintendo has same offer across the globe, the price has been increased is due to local private dirty monopoly
